JUST SHARING SOME GREAT INFO
Hi Britt, I hope you don't mind, but as long as I was copying the above article to be able to print it, I also copied it into a post on the roux-en-y forum. I am very interested to find out if anyone does the water loading as described. I also think it has a lot of great information. Thanks so much for sharing, and I hope you don't mind what I did. Thanks, Linda
Hi Britt,
I just read through all of that ... long article ... and just have some weird questions ... thoughts ... disputes with some of their opinions.
My first problem:
1. Fill pouch full quickly at each meal.
There is NO WAY I can eat quickly, nor fill my pouch quickly at each meal. If I do - I am in extreme pain, doubled over, and in terrible distress. I do much better if I eat slowly, chewing my food very well, and then swallowing. I try and take at least 30-45 minutes for my meals. Not "Inhale" my food, because ... that's what got me here in the first place - eating TOO QUICKLY.
and My second problem:
"FLUID LOADING
Fluid loading is drinking water/liquids as quickly as possible to fill the pouch which provides the feeling of fullness for about 15 to 25 minutes. The patient needs to gulp about 80% of his/her maximum amount of liquid in 15 to 30 SECONDS. Then just take swallows until fullness is reached."
Again, I have difficulty drinking gulps of water anytime. I'm having some hard time taking my pills because I can not drink large amounts of water at one time. I have got to sip my water and GULPING is just out of the question, or else it all comes up - WATER and ALL --.
So I'm not really thinking all of this person's advice is good advice.

Tracey,
I have learned that there are MANY different opinions and WAYS from person to person , from surgeon to surgeon - it all varies - when it comes to WLS.
I agree somethings that I read I was like - No way
while others I thought "good idea!"
I thought I'd share it so everyone could decide to take what they like and dicard what they don't.
Britt
I actually saw that same thing posted elsewhere and when I read it I was very surprised since it goes against everything my surgeon, his head nurse, and my nutritionist told me. However the thing that is very interesting from that article is that several times the writer insinutates that they are a surgeon, while other times it's clear they are a patient. That variation in voice alone makes me question the validity of their advice. I have an appointment with my surgeon on the 3rd and I plan on bringing this with me and asking if this is good advice or bad advice. It's possible that this advice is true for when you're far out from your surgery and since it's still so new to all of us it sounds fishy, but we'll see. I'll let you guys know what they say.
In the meantime thoough I woundn't try those tricks and pointers out just yet as it could do more harm than good if you stretch the pouch or tear the staple line by the water loading and fast eating, not to mention the discomfort and dumping that could occur.
