My first "uh, don't feed me that ever again!" experience

Well, I have been totally lucky in not having any problems with my foods. I would get occasional gas, but nothing a Gas-X couldn't take care of. Yesterday morning, I was at an early morning breakfast meeting with not many choices for food. So I took 1/2 bagel with cream cheese, lox and capers. Figuring the cheese and lox would be good for protein. About two hours after I ate, I started getting really bad abdominal cramps. I hung in there at work for 4 more hours, and then ended up going home to lay down. After about 7 hours I was feeling much better. I guess I know, no bagels for me! I hope that doesn't mean that I can't have a sandwich from time to time. But that pain was nearly too much to bear. I don't want to make that same mistake again.

Yeah my surgeon says bread is very hard to digest right now...and it takes up a lot of room. I feel the same way....can't wait to enjoy a nice sandwich (well 5 bites of one anyway).

I bought the mini bagels. I can eat almost a whole one, that has been toasted. They are really small. You might try one of those and see how it does, but I would toast it first.

Sorry that you got so sick, I know that it is no fun to get sick at work. I return to work on the 27th of Dec. I took another two weeks off to test what I can have and not have. I work in a mill, and the work is heavy, so I wanted to make sure that I was healed and could take the right food with me so that I would not get sick by chance. I am so glad that you are feeling much better and I pray that you do not have to go though that again. Chrisy

Kim, I was just curious about the type of surgery that you had. I think our surgery date was around the same time.

I had the mini gastric bypass performed by Dr. Robert Rutledge in Henderson, NV. There are a few locations around the country that perform this specific surgery. It involves taking the stomach and sectioning off a narrow tube and creating a junction at the bottom with the intestine after several feet have been bypassed. It's not like the "old Loop" bypass that was the cause of so many problems years ago. Many people think this surgery is that, and it is not.
