Hi.. I'm new to this November board I wrote another post a day or so ago... but I have some questions... I had my surgery going on 5 weeks ago... november 15th it was a lap RNY... As i said i lost 3 almost 4 pant sizes and dropped 26 pounds. I didnt meassure my self wish i would of but i can now... I loved food more before my surgery then now. I know there is alot I cant eat and probably wont ever have again... the things that got me to where i was to heavy i need to avoid all together... pepsi was a big one .. 20 to 30 pounds on my body were probably from soda alone... and i had one sip of it the other day and its weird it doesnt taste good to me... my pepsi is like some with coffee... but anyways....I havent had one nor want one since my surgery... but does anyone graze... a nipple of this or that between meals.. for instance and i have seen me do this often.. i wont lie... like today i had my breakfast then lunch.. and just opened up the fridge and took a tiny peice of watermelon to eat... its soft before i swallow... and does everyone get in ALL their vitamins in and all their protein down.. see my doctors nurse told me to get down 2 shakes so i have been using unjury.. 25 grams of protein thats with the milk included.. and my b-12 my 2 multi vitamins and my 2 calciums... and my iron and vitamin C at night before bed.... to be honest i havent taken the iron and vitamin c and some days pass and i get one multi vitamin down and 1 calcium.... i get busy and forget... and yesterday i had 1 shake .. and thats happened a few to many times... I KNOW i need to get all my protein in and all my vitamins but ugh.... its hard sometimes if im out doing errons and i get back and its to close to lunch or dinner.. i rather eat then drink a shake that doesnt taste good to me anymore.... i read some of your posts and you all seem to be doing things by the book.. i wish i could do that... i never had pureed food i mean not like baby food... the thought of blending my food up wasnt appealing... i had soft foods instead.. like tuna, mashed potatos...everything on the list she gave me.. but i have expertimented alittle and some got me in alot of pain... and sick to my pouch.... and learned my lesson... but i need to get on track... and take my vitamins like im suppose too and my protein... can anyone tell me if they have done the same as me.... please dont say im alone in this... Beth

I just wanted to tell you that NO you are not alone~ I had my rny on nov13th, so just 2days earlier than you!.....and I always said that i would do everything by the book, but i hear ya when you say that it is hard to stay on that track depending on what happens throughout the day, i try to get everything in but it just doesnt always happen, for me it is like i forget to eat cuz i am not hungry, and then with vits etc i forget about them too, i know that is very bad but it is super hard harder than i could have ever expected, BUT everyday i try a little harder and it is getting a little better, i cant say that i have gotten sick from anything that i have tried, but i know i am not getting in as much as i should, somedays i eat once, and i know that is really bad too, i guess you live and learn, we will get the hang of this one day

No, you are not alone! I still struggle with getting my vitamins in (I take 4 chewable bariatric surgery vitamins), I haven't gotten all my fluids in yet, though I keep trying. Most days lately I've been getting my protein in with 1 unjury chocolate shake, and then about 10 gms of protein in my other meals and snacks. One thing that I haven't allowed myself to do is to put anything in my mouth except at meals or snacks. Each day I get up and say to myself "Today I'm going to try harder". Progress, not perfection is my goal. I know that this is all a matter of habit, and one of these days it'll be second nature to do these things. Lately, I do better with my vitamins when I put them out in a little bowl, to see and take when I'm having a meal or snack. Good luck, and welcome to this forum. Linda

I try to get as much protien in as possible and have stuck to using shakes in am and pm to make sure I get it in.I am 4 weeks out tommorw. It has been a struggle when not hungery. I find the hardest thing is keeping the time in between eating and drinking water. I too like to put out all my vit and meds in the morning as a reminder. So now that I am kinda into a routine I go back to work on WEds and will need to figure out how to get everyting in. Tech. we are not allowed to eat at our stations. I work at a hospital. But if we do it very discreetly no one seems to mind. So from what I have been hearing we just need to keep up the good work and try as much as we can. Kim

Thank you!!! I thought I was the only person out here 'cheating', dont seem to have to many problems with proteins, am getting better at the vitamins now that i have put them into pill containers just as i did my my diabetes meds... however the urge to eat is sometimes overwhelming!!! I didn't realize how hard this part would be... every 2 hrs or so I am hungry?? not sure if its head hunger or what but you can count on me eating a nibble of something like a cube of cheese, or peice of fruit... need to really stop this habit. also need to start eating 3 meals daily instead of 1 or 2, boy is that going to be hard especcially since i start work next wed!! anyhow just thought i'd let ya know I share your pain!!

Honestly the goals they set for us to eat and drink are pretty much impossible in the beginning.. yeah right... 73 oz of fluid a day at least? I have had nothing to do all day but work on my food and water for almost 4 weeks now and I still can't get it all in so don't feel bad. things will get much more hectic for me as of thursday as I will go back to normal life of being a mom and such ( a luxury I have been able to forgo since I had surgery out of state from my family and my mother has been keeping my child) I worry that I can stay on track after that. Vitamins... I feel good if I have gotten 1 of everything at least in each day ( and my 1 month labs were fine) I try and get in at least HALF the protein they want, again labs were fine. As for "nippling" hehe... if I do happen to nibble right now, I make sure it is protein.. your right cheese is good, a protein bar... something that will add to my totals.. even a sugar free popsicle.. because that adds to your water totals (no sugar and no calories so = to Crystal light) 1 popsicle is usually a 2 oz boost of liquid woot. you are not alone, we all have our own coping mechanisms. Me ... I am focusing on smell. I try and enjoy the smell of something now, to savor the nuances, my memory of a how it might taste seems to be enough for now. Tairie

I have found myself cheating also. I'm wondering if that is why I havent lost as much weight as I should.. I hear my DR gets angry w/ you if you dont loose what he expects each visit. I thought eating less would = more weight loss, but it doesnt seem the case, why?? So I'm wondering I dont eat as much as I should, I beleve I might get 50 grams of protein a day, never 60, & no way have I ever gotten a full gallon of water a day. Is this why I'm not loosing very much?? I used to LOVE ice water...even better w/ a lemon wedge, but not it seems like such a chore & get sick to my stomach when I drink sometimes. I HATE s/f kool aid & chrstal light & any other s/f flavored water. I can only tollerate def. unsweet ice tea latley. Sadly the only protein drink I have liked so far is Hanks & I hear from other postings here that it's not as good as it says. .So still trying to find the great protein shake.

You definitely are not alone! I have trouble everyday-most weekdays I am good about drinking the water & taking the vitamins because I am sitting here at work but the weekends throw me off-as do any unforeseen events! Just try your best!!!
