3 weeks out...and stalled!
Hey all! i had a lap rny on 11/27 and have lost from 355 to 319...up and down from 319 to 322! I feel like a yo yo this week! I did my mushies last week and did my regular stuff today. I was FREAKED out when I stalled and then went up 3 but I have been assured that its my body still healing and grabbin' hold of ALL the food it can get. How is everyone else doing? Anyone else tired of eggs and chicken?? my nut's list is very limited so I see posts with people talkin' about stuff I'm not supposed to touch. Isn't it weird how we can have the same procedure and get totally different post op info??? That really confuses me....but anywho....i'd love to talk to more people who had surgery around the same time as myself. please post some replies to let me know how y'all are doin'. God Bless!!!
Hi Kendra,
I had my surgery on 11-21-06; and I agree, every surgeon and nutritionist each have different rules and regulations for their patients.
For example, a friend I have in California, who had her surgery mid-October, is still on full liquids (for a total of 6 weeks), and can take no pills unless they are crushed, and can have six small 'meals' a day.
I on the other hand, went from 3 days of liquids in the hospital (if you call s/f jello a liquid), 1 day of "pureed to a pulp" food on the fourth day in the hospital - straight to soft & pureed foods for three weeks. I've now progressed to 'solid foods' on week 4. I know I have lost a total of 32# (20# prior to surgery and 12# since), however, I'm hoping to get weighed tomorrow to see more loss!
Most of the pureed/soft foods I have or have had are low-fat, small curd cottage cheese; no-fat vegetarian refried beans with 1/2 teaspoon of fat-free sour cream, salsa, and low-fat shredded cheese mixed together; pureed soups or 'cream of soup' made with skim milk or water; soft scrambled egg beaters with some low-fat shredded cheese; malt-o-meal or oatmeal with a little milk and margarine; unsweetened applesauce; s/f, non-fat yogurt, s/f pudding cups, s/f popsicles (1/2); mashed potatoes w/o skin; pureed chicken in chicken broth; canned vegetable soup - pureed; well boiled or steamed non-fibrous vegetables - carrots, zucchini, peas, squash, and then pureed or mashed prior to eating; and soups with no noodles or rice - pureed.
I've moved on to solid foods now, but have to chew them to pieces prior to swallowing. I'm having more of a difficult time now, because my choices seem endless, but I really need to find that I need to eat healthier choices, to keep my weight always moving down.
My biggest problem is not drinking enough water right now. Also, I was so used to just drinking water (gulp, gulp), that sipping is really hard. I like to take a big swig and then realized I didn't sip it, so I start by swallowing slowly. It's really hard to swallow small drinks, with a mouth full of water!
I really believe it is much easier for dieters now than say even 10 years ago, since there are many companies that almost cater to those of us that need to eat the protein, and along with the no sugar added, low fat or non-fat products are always within reach. For me its hard to prepare foods from scratch, so I like to find frozen products that are easy to handle, microwave or put in my toaster oven.
Wishing you well in your journey,

Hi, I had my surgery 11-21 and have lost approx 24 lbs.... did the same thing and stalled for about a week - the scale lied and said I had gained 1 lb even!! however I started my cycle and then didn't move for 6 days on the scale... my group said this is typical even for those who dont have their monthly... so take a deep breath and keep on smilin, remember every month to expect a week of body reorginizin!!
Hi Kendra, I'm almost 5 weeks out, and I had the same thing happen at 3 weeks, and my stall lasted almost 2 weeks. I had read several posts on this web site that this is normal, and even read it in an article about plateaus, but it still was a little frustrating. But I'm now 1 week away, and am down another 9 pounds, for a total of 36 lbs. I just got back from eating out with my husband, and I could get in and out of the booth, and sit with room to spare in front of my tummy! It sure is the little things in life that are truly remarkable! Well, anyway, I know your plateau is only temporary. Hang in there! Linda
Me too... I had my one week post op and had lost 16lbs... 2 weeks later I weighed myself and had only dropped a single pound, I was ready to cry. next day... aunt flo visited.... watch her, she puts it back on as quick as you take it off.. thankfully she only comes once a month and doesn't stay long hehe. total for week #4.... 21 lbs so far woot.

I too had my surgery on 11/27 ... I'm also at a stall... I've lost 22 pounds total.. but nothing for the last week... But I guess I have managed to lose inches.. because I tried on an old pair of jeans.. and they fit... tightly.. but they did zip up.. so while I might not be dropping any weight.. I can tell where I'm losing inches... I've moved from the soft mush... to normal soft foods.. anything you can cut with the side of a fork.. Hang in there!!! -Stephanie
