Hello everyone ...wanted to introduce myself
Hello
I have been on the virginia board for WLS but I saw that they said there was a board for patients who had surgery in November so I thought I would come here to see and I am glad I have... its nice to read some of the same concerns I have..
I had my surgery On Novemeber 15th it was a Lap RNY, and I have lost 25 pounds. I went into surgery at 247 and I am now 220 and down 3 pant sizes... so I am hoping i lost close to the same my 2nd month lol
I have had some issues... well in the hospital it went well and i have not dumped at all ive been really good with eating no sugar... but i have tasted this or that when i shouldnt of... 2 weeks out and i was trying noodles that my family ate and i threw up and was in alot of pain for 2 or 3 hours... well i did that 3 times. it was me eating to much when my pouch was already full.. i need to stop doing that.
and its been hard to get all the vitamins down and at times i skip a protein shake i am suppose to drink 2 a day.. between meals and when im out and get home... well i miss one and a vitamin UGH I need to get on track ... so is anyone else having the same problems as me....
I would like to hear im not alone in this.... : ))
Beth
You are so not alone and Welcome! Although I haven't touched noodles/sugar... My nutritionist has me on just protein until I am 6-weeks out. But she didn't recommend beef until later. I did try it... sort of made my pouch feel queasy (hamburger) then I made my husband a Guinness beef stew and I figured I would have a few pieces of the stew beef. BIG mistake. The beef had been stewing (DUH) in beer for about 3 hours. Guinness is high in sugar and hot dog was I sick after (just one piece of the meat)! So I got my hand slapped and went back to just eating chicken, turkey and fish for a while longer.
Funny you speak of eating two much. My DH and I were talking about just that the other day. I too have eaten more than my allotted 3oz at a meal then was in pain for a couple of hours. Funny how our head takes so long to catch up with this process. We went out to dinner on Friday night to this new Mexican restaurant. I figured I could have refrieds (Nutritionist approved) and so I ordered a small side of refrieds and a single chicken enchilada. When it arrived I took the tortilla off the chicken which was about 2 oz of meat and ate the chicken and the beans. I finished the chicken first and then started on the beans and said that after a few bites I am starting to get full and my husband said then stop eating... because we were at a restaurant...my head kept saying continue! As dumb as it sounds had my husband not remind me to stop... I most likely would have continued. Instead he finished my beans and I left the restaurant feeling satisfied!
This whole thing is a learning process. We have to retrain our minds as our bodies are not what they were.
I am have issues getting all me stuff in too. I forget the ones at night the most.
Take care and just make sure to focus on getting what needs to go in....water, protein, vitamins, etc.
This is a wonderful place with wonderful people who are going through what you are ...you are not alone.
Hi Beth! Welcome to the Nov '06 board...I love this board, it's been SO helpful and everyone is super nice.
I've been lucky with the throwing up deal...in that I haven't done it yet *knock on wood* but have had several bouts of nausea after eating this or that that didn't agree with me. I'm suppose to be on pureed foods for another three weeks. I pretty much stick to it. One of the things I found that sits really well with me are the single serving pouches of kraft mac & cheese. I can eat about half of it and it actually has quite a bit of protien. Also just a 3/4 oz slice of cheese has 5 grams of protien (I discovered that today and was super excited since it's so easy for me to eat)
I agree about the vitamins and protien. It's hard to get it all in and I'm already so sick of the protien shakes. I'm pretty good about the vitamins although I was suppose to start the iron supps this week and haven't figured out when do them so that they don't oppose the calcium. I'll try to get on track with those this week. It's easy to say...oh one day of missing vitamins won't hurt...but those days add up quick and I have to stop myself from doing that.
Anyway, you are not alone, many of us have a hard time with the same stuff!!
Congrats on the weight loss and keep up the good work!
