I had my surgery on 11/27 so I'm pretty much 2 weeks out today. I started on full liquids on Wednesday following my post-op surgeon consult. However, since starting on the full liquids I have yet to have any kind of bowel movement (sorry to be so blunt ) I'm not taking any pain meds anymore so the codene can't be the culprit. I'm not super concerned since before transitioning to full liquids I was having no issues with this so I know the piping is connected right so to speak. My question is has this happenned to any of you guys, and if so do you have any suggestions for ways to kick-start the works again? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!!!

I personally haven't had that problem after surgery, but in the past when I've had trouble with BM's, I usually just need to exercise and it seems to get me going. LOL Walk, walks, walk! Donna

I have not had that problem yet, however I have read on other boards that the culprit can be not getting enough liquids in. So if you are not getting your 64 oz a day in, that could be the problem. Otherwise I would contact your surgeons office and see if there is something you can take to get things moving. Good Luck Shawn M.

My surgeon said we could take colace if needed. The PA said at my 2 week post-op appt that I shouldn't worry about going days between BM"s as we weren't eating much and most of it was liquid. She said if we don't go in 5 days to take the colace and/or milk of magnesia. Melinda

My doctor puts everyone on Colace stool softner, and it seems to help with constipation.

My dietician recommended that I take a Benefiber chewable for calcium and regularity. I will say since I've changed over to one a day I've been regular since. GOod luck Michelle
