Had surgery on the 29th still can barely move
My surgery was on the 29th and was so unbelievably painful I can't even describe. I stayed two nights in the hospital fighting fever and oxygen problems. Also I couldn't handle the morphine because it was making me sick. When I got home I was unable to stomach meds or anything. Then I got thrush in my mouth which is nasty. My doc says no meds for 2 weeks. My upper left incison is killing me still. I am weak and can't stand up striaght because it pulls on the incision. I have a hard time expanding my lungs and I have been unable to get in my bed so I am sleeping in my recliner every night and am there all day except when i try to move. Did anyone else go through this? I feel like the only person having all these problems? Are they normel? I'm going to see the doc thurday...Sorry to complain...Take care everyone! Hope you all are well..
Bonnie,
So sorry to hear that you are going through so much. I know the pain meds made me really sick... I was in the hospital from Thursday until Monday night. But I didn't really have any problems moving or pain, even when I stopped the pain meds (The Sunday after surgery). I guess I was lucky. I wish there were something I could do for you. I hope you are feeling better really soon.

Bonnie,
It sounds like you had lap RNY?? If so it seems strange that you are still in so much pain and I'm kind of surprised they let you leave the hospital when you were having fever and oxygen issues. By the sixth day I was feeling pretty good. I was totally off pain meds and was taking several walks everyday with my puppy. I'm not saying I was pain free (I'm still not pain free three weeks out) but it was totally manageable. Most other people have reported similar experiences as mine. Its SO important to force your lungs to work fully. My surgeon said breathing, walking and coughing were the three things I needed to concentrate on the most. You DO NOT want to get pnemonia after such a major surgery and if you don't force your lungs to expand fluid will start building up and you'll have a problem. Also, you need to make sure you're taking mini walks as often as possible so you don't run into blood clot issues in your legs. I know for me even when I was still feeling pretty crappy the walking actually helped make me feel better once I got up and started. If you are feeling this badly I would go see your Dr immediately, this doesn't sound right to me, not from my own experience or what other people who have just done this surgery have gone through. I know it's different for everyone but this sure seems extreme to me.
I hope you feel better soon!!

Hi Bonnie,
I'm with everyone else about getting to the dr. soon. I don't know if I'd wait until Thursday. If you think you can, though, I would encourage walking. And breathing as Corinna said. I couldn't take a deep breath either, but my dr. told me to pu**** a little and it got better. Some pain is normal.
Let us know how you are doing. I hope you get to feeling better soon.
Bonnie,
Wow sounds like you are on a bumpy road to recovery. I had my surgery 11/6 - when they took me of the pain pump and tried oral medication. I got so sick and threw up. They finally found a liquid that I could take. I have to say I am very lucky the only real pain I had were gas pains. I didn't have to take any pain meds after I left the hospital. My left side did / does ache from time to time. They say that is normal.
Have you called to let then know that you feel WEAK?
Make sure you discuss all of your concerns tomorrow at your appointment.
You are in my prayers!!
hugs,
Britt
Hey Bonnie...
It gets better every day. It was a little tough the first few days and like you, I had problems with the morphine pump and meds. I stopped it the day after surgery and toughed the pain out instead of being sick and nauseated all day. I did had oxygen sat problems and stayed on oxygen until the day I left the hospital. I had surgery on the 13th and I still have pain in my left incisions also, not excruciting pain but pain. Sorry you're going through so much...maybe your doc will be able to help ya out a lil on Thursday. I know that a lot of my problems took some time and healing...you'll start feeling better soon!
