Ok, so I am still on the puree stage of my diet. I have been handling everything very well. I even started questioning myself about the effectiveness of my pouch. Last night, I done alot of research on proper proteins and low carb foods. I seen where baked fish was an excellent source. I figured that since fish was a soft food, I could chew it well and be able to eat a piece. I went to the store and bought some Gortons Lemon Pepper Fish Fillets. The taste wasnt very good but I ate a few bites, along with a few bites of steamed broccli. I chewed and chewed and chewed. I got this horrible feeling in my chest. I felt as if I couldnt breathe well. I ran for the bathroom and threw up all of my supper. NO MORE FISH FOR A WHILE!!!!!!!!!! Anyone else having trouble with food?

Sorry about your yucky experience Did the fillets have a sauce on them? I found that blending fish that came with white sauce was good for me in the early days. I eat too fast all the time and get quite severe pains just below my breast bone. I am having lots of problems with head hunger but it is getting better as the weeks progress. Hope you find something else that is a good source of protein that you can tolerate better.

The fish had a lemon pepper sauce on it. I've got to make my mind slow down so my mouth will. Old habits are hard to break I guess. lol The head hunger is hard to get over as well.

I too am questioning myself on the effectiveness of my pouch, I am doing so very well and think to myself "gee, I wonder if the doctor did anything to my stomach" besides the incisions. I have just a little soreness inside my tummy, I gather it is where they stapled my stomach. I am still on the liquids for another week, I do not feel hungry, but so far I do not feel full either. I drink protein and sip water and I question myself am I doing the right thing, I drink 3oz of protein within 20 min. and sip 4to6 oz of water within that hour, or at least I try to on the water. I just hope I am doing the right thing, cannot wait until I can try the pureed stage. Have not weighed since the doctor I want to be surpised and not disappointed. Chrisy

I think questioning ourselves is just a phase that we all go thru. I'm so glad I have this website to come to and discuss my worries with other surgery people. I know the nerves in the tummy are trying to heal which is why we dont have that "full" feeling just yet. It sounds like you are doing really great. Keep up the great work!

I am just starting soft foods and I had a similiar issue last night. I ate too fast though... also, broccolli stems are too tough for our systems just yet. I too sometime wonder if they did any thing but then I eat too fast or the wrong thing and then it is confirmed. LOL

Hello Ms.Me, I remember this stage. I was thinking 3 weeks after surgery that I wanted a reversal !!! You will learn in time how to combine different foods so they go down easier. I cannot eat those fish fillets. I actually eat the breaded ones. I have a problem with most meats unless they are covered in gravy, and let's just say that the mere mention of pork loin can cause me to have a seizure. Thank god my surgeon did not agree about the reversal. Even 2 years later, If I'm not careful, I can have trouble but it's better then it used to be. I find anything to doughy, like untoasted bread or too dry is going to cause trouble. Think wet. Wet is good. Just be careful what you wet it with. Watch your sugar. I can actually put down a gigantic salad as long as it has dressing. Tuna salad w/ reduced fat mayo, egg salad. Soft and slippery. I'm good with cold cuts and I actually need the salt so it works out for me. I can't eat a hamberger but sloppy joes work. Chili and so on. The food that we need the most can be the hardest to digest. When you first begin to eat meat be VERY cautious, but it gets better, I promise. Good luck honey.

I was raised on fish but it was always FRIED fish! lol I think I will put the fish on hold for a while. Actually, I should still be on pureed food but I just thought I would give something soft and tender a try. Guess its back to puree food for me for a while!!! lol
