Having trouble with the water

Hi All, Had my surgery on the 14th. Surgery went well, but due to some gyn issues had to stay in the hospital a bit longer (5 days total). Anyway, I'm having the most horrible time trying to get my water in. Most days, I don't have trouble getting the protein. I'm avg about 69 gms a day. I just can't seem to do the water. I keep my water with me all the time, but just can't seem to remember to sip sip sip. Usually one of my family has to remind me. This makes me so mad . I knew beforehand that I would need to keep up the water and now I'm not doing it. I think I'm getting dehydrated because I feel really weak and dizzy alot of the time. Yesterday, I was almost too dizzy to go walking. I guess I'm not really looking for advice, because I know I need to drink the water. And I really hate to say that I'm venting, because everything else has gone so well. I've had minimal pain and feel like I'm loosing weight (haven't weighed yet). Just this water thing....I hope it gets easier. Loretta

Hi Loretta, I had RNY on 11/14 as well! I am doing very well although the last 2 days I have gotten a little tired mid-afternoon.....but when I'm only consuming 500 calories a day I guess that's bound to happen! How are you getting in 69 grams of protein a day??? In protein drinks?? The liquid in those count toward your fluid goal for the day. I find Crystal Light or Fruit 2 O to go down a little easier as well! Good luck and keep on sipping! Melinda

Hi Melinda, Yes, I'm getting the protein in thru my shakes. The shake I'm drinking has 23 gms protein in 4 oz water. I haven't tried Crystal Light yet, I'll give that a try and see if that helps. Thanks for the info. I agree, with only getting in so few calories, we are bound to be a bit tired. Thanks for your reply Loretta

Hi, I take 100% whey and put one scoop in my Atkin Advanage protein drink which has 20 grams of protein and by adding the whey (which is 20 grams of protein in a scoop) it makes my shake 40 grams of protein, I then drink 2 protein shakes a day like this and get my protein up there. My nut said that I could put the whey in my yogurt, jello, anything. Chrisy

Hi Christine, Wow, that's sounds like a good idea adding the whey. I can't wait until Wednesday when I start soft foods and can eat yogurt again. Good luck Loretta

Hey Loretta, how bout trying warm broth a couple times a day. That counts as a clear liquid...mostly made up of water. Don't get dehydrated...that will bring on another set of problems. good luck Cissy

Hi Cissy, Thanks for the advice. I have a hard time drinking the chicken and beef broth, but my husband found some vegetable broth that I think I can't tolerate better. hugs Loretta

Hi Renee, Thanks for the advice. I'm trying to eat more jello, but for some reason it's not very appetizing to me. I'm doing a little better with the SF popsicles. I I didn't realize how hard it would be to get all the water in. Hugs Loretta

Loretta, I know what you mean. I really didn't think it would be this hard to get in all the water. I think I might be lucky that I feel thirsty constantly so that helps remind me to drink all of the time. But even with that it's hard to drink all of it. You might try ice chips too. (just don't chew them...bad for your teeth...my fiance is a dentist so I get yelled at all the time for chewing ice). maybe it would be easier to remember because it's almost like eating Word of caution with broth, make sure you get low sodium or all of the salt in most broths will just counter act the liquid content.
