Have you ever had a problem with medical tape? Band aids, Nylon, adhesives, any allergies. Be sure to mention all and every problem you have had. I have an allergy to tape! After it has been on 8 hours I start to get a red rash that has an intense itch, and blisters up like a burn if the tape remains on. I told everyone about mine, Dr. Hospital. Admitting, Nurse on Duty, even when the IV line was attached. They seemed to think that their tape wouldn't do that. Well, it did. So did the tape on each of the 5 lap sites. Not the steri strips but the tape that held the gauze over it down. I was able to remove them after I got home. I ended up with red squares around each one. I also had rash at the top of my compression hose and on the shins from knees to ankles. These rashes are painful and unbelievable itchy enough to distract you from the real pain. It took about 10 days to dissapear. Now I have red scars in spots around my incession sites. They note allergies on your medical file, if you are allergic to tape make them put it on your chart in red or on your armband. It will be worth it.

I just had my pre-op/pre-admit stuff done and I told them I have that problem also. I told the Dr. also and he reported he will be using "the glue" then the close my skin after surgery. (I am having Lap Rny). I react just like you do---it burns my skin if it is on too long---it usually hurts worse then the "wound" that the tape or bandaid may be covering. Good Advice. Thanks
