Already Dumped!

Here I am being as careful as I can... I made some sugar-free CIB (with fat free skim milk) and it made me dump! I still (very much) feel the surgery so this was sooooo not fun to go through... got all hot and sweaty, shakes and just generally felt pretty danged bad! Ok, so I'll not be taking any CIB again! I'm trying not to go down the "what the bleep have I done to myself" road, but the thought does creep in now and then... I know it will get better, I just need to get past this initial healing. Look at Miss Whiner! Marilyn

Marilyn what works for one doesn't for another I guess. I can't believe that made you dump, it is like one of the top items on our dietician's diet. I will be cautious myself as with any foods I introduce into my system. You did not make the wrong decision you just had one minor setback with that episode. I didn't feel you were being a whiner either. Try to stay hydrated after the dumping, that is what I've been told as I'm sure you also. Chin up girl, rest, sip, walk and heal right now. michelle

Carnation Instant Breakfast

The Carnation Instant Breakfast (sugar-free) is actually not sugar free it's no sugar added. There's still I believe 7 grams of sugar in each packet. Maybe if you only had a half of a glass it would be okay? For most people (from what I've seen on the VA board) dumping occurs around 4-6 grams of sugar. It varies with everyone of course but you should be okay with only a half glass (which would only be 3.5 grams). Good luck! Raven

I think Raven hit it right on the head! It is so hard to get things down so I was pushing myself to drink more and more (worried about not getting enough protein) and I think that's what caused it. An early lesson learned for me!

I'm sorry you had that happen! I know it's going to be a learning process. Keep your chin up. You are not whining! Vent all you want.

Marilyn... If you are having a hard time with CIB try IsoPure Ready to Drink. They come in 20 ounce bottles and have 40 grams of protein. 160 calories, 0 carbs and 0 sugars and no aspertame. I know some people don't like it, but for some strange reason I love it. I like it even more than my creamy milkshake-ish protein drinks. These are fruity and taste like Crystal Light (just a little thicker). It takes me from about 7am - noon to finish one bottle but after I'm done with the bottle I've gotten 2/3 of my protein for the day and just allow myself to drink whatever liquids and eat whatever mushies I want. I got it from GNC and it was $3 something per bottle and it was buy one get one half off...but this is my second day and it's done wonders for me. I've tried the Mango Peach (really good) and the Icy Orange (okay) and they were both palatable. But I know some folks really don't like them so if you are kinda finicky with stuff (which I usually am) then I'd recommend just buying one or two and trying it out before you bought a lot. Hope it helps some! Dana

My friend that had surgery last year is totally intolerant of milk (just milk not all milk products) now and it will make her dump immediately (she was not lactose intolerant before) so perhaps that did it. I don't know if you're using milk with any of your other protien drinks but if not you might stay away from the milk for awhile. Also perhaps it was just the mixture of the milk (has lots of lactose which is sugar) and the sugar in the mix pushed you over too. I'd be whining too since we're all being SO super careful right now and it's not like we're pushing the envelope or anything...so whine away Corinna Q

I'm so very sorry that's happened already. I was wondering the same thing as Corinna..... they say alot of ppl become lactose intolerant afterwards.... maybe trying with soy milk ?? Or like Raven said maybe it was just too much too soon. Nooooo you're not whinning.... that is at the top of the list that our nuts say we can have, and I know it had to hurt. not going down that road ( been waiting to use that smilie ), this will pass, and you will feel soooo much better. Huggs & Blessings, Lori
