"Last Supper" last night...starting pre-op diet today

Confession time... We went out for my belated birthday dinner last night. It was also the meal that I've been planning as my "last supper." All I can say is, WHAT A MEAL! We went to a fancy steakhouse in town with two other couples. They bought my meal, but I INSISTED that I be allowed to buy the wine. So, I decided to treat my friends to my favs. Good Lord, I spent $300 ON THE WINE alone. Oh well, it was really wonderful to see my friends really enjoying the selections. We had bubby with the appetizers, a 2002 Silver Oak Cab and a 2000 Barneti Amarone with dinner. I had a beautiful filet (only ate half), a few lyonnaise potatos, some mushrooms. I had oysters on the half shell for an appetizer. The restaurant brought me a hot brownie chocolate death thing that was UNREAL. Yup, I did eat 3/4 of that! It was a fitting last supper ritual that will not soon be repeated (if ever!) I think it was okay to make it special. Anyway, that's now over and I've started my pre-op diet. I'm starting three days early. After last night, it just feels like the right thing to do. So far, so good. I don't feel like eating the curtains yet, but it's only 2 pm, so we'll see. Thanks for listening! Stephanie

That sounds kind of like the supper that I am going to have. My mom and Dad asked me what I wanted for my last dinner. (the way my mom put it sounded it like I was on death row =D) I wasn't exactly sure what I wanted, but then I slept on it and figured it out. My dad is cooking me a HUGE stake, mashed potates and bacon wrapped Prawns.... mmmmm I can't wait!!!! I hope everything goes well for you Stephanie! and I am glad that you had a good last supper!!! take care! ~Melody

Hi Stephanie, Sounds like your " last supper " was just perfect I wish you luck with your liquid diet. I only have to do it 1 day prior to my surgery. But, have been seriously thinking about doing it for at leat 5 days prior. For some reason 1 day just doesnt seem right, when everyone else has 2,1 and even some having 3 weeks liquid diets !!! Huggs & Blessings, Lori

Hi Lori - isn't it completely amazing how many different approaches these surgeons have to the whole process? I have a fairly low BMI for the surgery (36.8) so I sort of thought I wouldn't have as much of an issue with a floppy liver, but apparently my surgeon is a belt and suspenders kind of guy. If you've got the desire to join us in this torture, heck, I'd appreciate the company (as long as your doc says ok!) The more the merrier??? Stephanie

Sounds like you had a great time... I never had a chance for my "last supper" due to my date getting moved up, I had to start my liquid diet right away.... uggghhh.... I had it all planned to, but never got a chance to make it... oh well, fortunately it is stuff that I will be able to eat in a couple months, so I didn't totally miss out. Best of luck to you and glad you had so much fun... OH.. happy belated birthday to as well... Shawn M.

Hi Shawn - Yeah, it was really fun. It'll be a great memory. So sorry you didn't get to do something like that, but if it meant that you got your surgery sooner, my bet is that it'll be definitely worth it. And thanks for the B-Day wishes, too! Stephanie

Yes Stephanie, it is definitely worth it... having my sugery moved up almost 2 weeks beats having a "last supper" any day.... LOL... Shawn M.
