I'm having to get an IVC filter next Monday at 1:00 pm. Has anyone else on this board had to get one placed? Are you awake when they place it ? Do you feel anything ? Are you able to walk around afterwards? I'm supposed to attend a support group meeting that evening at 6:30. Loretta

Loretta, I don't have one yet, but I am scheduled for one on the 17th to have mine put in. Where I am going they don't "knock you out", but they said that they do sedate you. I am not sure how it works where you are going though. I am sure that you can't walk around right away. I was told to plan on being at the hospital for up to 8 hours and that I had to have someone to drive me home because I would not be allowed to drive. It took a lot of calls to get it all arranged, with 4 small kids to get sitters for and my hubby had to take yet another day off of work. Fortunately they were understanding and all fell into place. Personally I think the procedure for the IVC filter is more scarey to me than the WLS. Good Luck to you on Monday and let me know how it goes. Shawn

Hey There Guys! Personally...I am 17 months "post-op"...I told my doctor that I "refused" the IVC...)...I was 247 pounds and personally did NOT have any family history of "blood clots"...I wanted to be free of "any" devices "planted" inside me...just my opinion...(I have since lost 120 ...count 'em 120 pounds and now weight 127 pounds!!! So glad I did not have the IVC placed...HOWEVER: )...If I had a family history of "blood clots"...I would not have thought twice to have it placed.... Sincerely, Linda
