Lap-Band

Hi everyone, I am also new to the boards. My lapband surgery will be 11/20/06. I noticed most of the surgeries are RNY. Anyone else doing the band? Also, I have to be on a full month of liquids prior to the surgery. Anyone else????? And if so . . . how are you doing????? When the dog food starts looking good, you know you are in trouble!!! (Just kidding!) Denise

Hi Denise..... welcome to the board and congrats on getting a date. I am not having the band but I wanted to welcome you anyhow. I only have 8 days of the liquid diet and they provide me with what I can have too, I am not sure how that is going to go.. LOL... Well, anyway, best of luck to you. Thanks, Shawn! It looks like your surgery date is coming up, also. My doc provided me with the liquids, too, in the form of Optifast. If that is the case with your doc, try and get some of the soups. It makes a nice change from the "sweet" shakes. Good luck on your surgery and be sure to let us know how it goes! Denise

Hi Denise, I'm not having the band either but I wanted to welcome you. You can almost feel the excitement building on this board as we start getting our first groups through surgery. I don't have to do a liquid diet either. Just soft foods for a few days. Anyway, welcome!

Hi Kim, I am so glad I found this forum - everyone here is exactly where I'm at with surgery this month. So much better for me than the main forum, even though I learn alot by browsing about. You are lucky to be able to do soft foods! Will you be on liquids for a few weeks post-surgery? Good luck on 11/15! Denise

Yes, Denise, I will be on a clear liquid diet for 2 weeks post op. Then pureed food for another 2-3 weeks, then to soft foods and so on. I'm really nervous about eating after the surgery. I'm so afraid I will dump or overfill or get something stuck. I don't want to be all pukey.

Hi Denise, I am having lap band on 11/30. I usually am active on a yahoo group which is only lapband but now that my surgery is getting closer, I thought I would look around. I have not been put on a prediet. I wish I had, because I am having last supper syndrome and that is not good. Hope all goes well. Keep in touch! Miriam in SC

Hi Miriam, I totally understand the whole "last supper" thing. I did something similar only I called it "Farewell to Food" week. (Yep, a whole week) I did it just before starting my liquids. It was a lot of fun actually, I just let myself eat whatever sounded good and didn't shame myself into any kind of guilt. I've lost 12 #'s in 2 weeks with the liquids so that helps me with motivation. Hope all goes well with your surgery, be sure to let us know how you are doing! Denise

I am having Lap-Band on Tuesday morning, I will post when I get home on Wednesday. I guess they sometimes have to do the lap band Open which is what RNY means I believe but don't quote me on that this is all new to me too. Sometimes they have to remove your gall bladder too. Have you done your pre op tests yet? Wow a month of liquids I only have to starting tomorrow. I will get back to you when I get home. Take Care, Jackie

Hi Jackie, Good luck on your surgery! It is so soon! Yes, I have done all my pre-ops: blood work, EKG, Gasoscopy, etc. I imagine you have had yours, of course! I will be praying for you on Tuesday that all will go well. Yes, the full month of liquids is tough. I weighed 278.5 when I started and he wants me down 20 - 30 lbs before he operates. I'm down 12 lbs. so far, YEA! Can't wait to read your post-surgery post and see how you are. Denise
