I am hoping to have surgery in January. I have had all my tests done, all I have left is my psy eval, which is scheduled on the 20th of November. I am a 21 year old female who went from 170 to 255 in less than a year and there is no explination. I am very excited to have surgery, but my fiance is nervous and says its not a good idea. How was everyones surgery, the whole procces and did any one have complications. I am looking for advise on how to prepare for surgery, how to cut out the things I enjoy so very much (soda, alcohol and greasy foods). I have to lose 20 lbs in the next month or so...someone help and tell me what to eat and what exercise works for them

Melissa, Did you Dr have any specific diet he wanted you to follow? For me my surgeon wanted me to do a low carb diet, no more than 30 grams of carbs per day and drop about 15 pounds before surgery. It's actually easier than you might think and the weight dropped of fairly quickly for me, 24 pound in two months. As for the things you love that you will need to cut out do it slowly...since you have the time try dropping just one item from that list at a time. Or instead of having soda every day have it once or twice a week and cut it back from there. I love soda and that's been a hard one to drop...especially because I work at a restaurant and have unlimited access to soda all day. I've gone almost completely to iced tea w/ splenda or water with lime. If you follow a low carb diet you'll find that you cook at home more often and won't be eating so many greasy fried foods simply because most people don't cook that way at home for themselves (it's messy and a pain in the butt). Hope that helps a little. My surgery isn't until the 10th but I"ll be posting my results after so you can get an idea of how things went. Good luck Corinna Q

Different things work for different people. Maybe you could try substituting a meal or two with a liquid protein drink, and up your exercise. You may have to go on a liquid diet for a while before your surgery anyway. Good luck to you!

Hi Melissa! Congratulations on your upcoming surgery! I am in the second week of my 90 day prep program which insurance requires. I have to lose 20 lbs during the next 60-90 days as well. I would go to your nutritionist for some helpful ideas. Personally, I have cut out basically all starches...drinking lots of water, NO COKES!!! There is so much sugar in cokes that you really just need to stay away from them all together. I started dieting on the 31st of Oct. and so far I am down 4 pounds. Weigh****chers also usually does the trick! WALK, WALK, WALK!! That will help you drop the pounds as well! I alos have to do a 10 liquid diet just prior to surgery! YUK!!!! Good luck to you and save me a seat on the losers bench!!! Kim
