Death by Pre-Op Diet, Help
Hey there!
I'm not on the liquid phase yet, but I'm struggling with the 5% weight loss requirement ****ep regaining. Very frustrating.) Hang in there and do the very best you can. Is there any chance your surgeon would prescribe you some phentermine to curb your appetite during this phase? That could be enormously helpful, particularly if you've never taken phentermine before. Just a thought.
Best wishes, and let us know how you are doing.

Right there with you!! I'm nine days away from surgery and have been on the liquid diet since Friday. I tried the Atkins shakes a while back and couldn't deal with them. However, the Slim Fast Low Carb are quite tolerable, even the chocolate which I usually don't like. As someone else said, the salvation is having soup/broth because it breaks the monotony of the cold, sweet, milky shakes. Hang in there, you're almost to the "other side"!
Hugs,
Merci.
Just keep the end in sight and know what you are doing all this for. I do not have a pre-op diet. He said nothing after midnight the night before the surgery, so I do not know what you are going through. I have been on minimum calories before. I was on 700 calories for a year and lost about 55 pounds, of which I have gained back 45 of them. Just keep going. Think of the diet after surgery and how permanent is, so 2 weeks shouldn't seem too bad.

I'm right there with you... I'm on day 2 of 14 and I don't know if I can do this. I'm on 5 Optifast a day. Today I've only had 2 so far... they make me gag and I have a really bad upset stomach from them. I can have water, CL and raw carrots and celery (but just a few)... perhaps that's what they call my sensible dinner. I'm lactose intolerant and haven't had milk in 40 years... Optifast is milk based. I'm taking lactaid, but I don't think it's helping... plus I can't stand the texture of milk. Does anyone have any ideas... what should I do???
D...
My idea for you is to contact your doctor and ask if you can substitute the Optifast for something high in protein/low carb that you can tolerate... maybe Isopure. And, to compensate for the lack of vitamins you could take Optisource (they are chewable and have a ton of vitamins in them, they are specifically for bariatric patients)

Good Luck!!!!
I am on day 8 of the liquid diet. Soup is the best solution, especially cream soup. As someone else said it takes the monotony of shakes away. I have been 98% good, but have gone off a little. I am still down more than 10# so the surgeon said I was doing something right. I don't want a little slip to cause me to have to have an open surgery, so I am focused. Just take it one day at a time. If you get hungry, make yourself wait for awhile before you eat, soon you will forget about it and the longer you can wait between shakes the better off you are. Good luck, see you on the other side. My surgery is 11/7.

I can't have cream soups either. In fact I can't even have SF popcycles according to the dietician. I can't get the shakes in like I should - I'm supposed to have 5. I can tell my calories are low... not feeling the best... pretty weak. I'm waiting for a call from the dietician.
