hey Stefie We share a surgery date!! I am not too worried about the sleep part, I worry more about the pain afterwards. It will be ok, talk to your anesthesiologist before you sleep, let him know your fears. I am on a 2 week pre-op diet to "shrink" my liver..its a pain in the arse..not fun, but I am doing it. You could probably do something yourself, clear liquids, protein shakes, but again, I urge you to talk to your surgeon. keep us posted cheers deb

Stefanie, I'm having surgery the 6th too! I've have 5 other surgeries so the putting to sleep doesn't scare me. Alot of how you do during and after surgery is a positive attitude. Just think you're doing this so you'll be around to watch your daughter grow up!! I'm doing this because my son & wife are giving me a grandbaby in April and I want to be here to watch him/her grow up. I also want to feel good and quit taking a pharmacy daily. Where are you having surgery? I'm going to Dr Joya in Puerto Vallarta. Well keep you chin up and take care. Debby

Stefie, Ah, but the going to sleep is the fun part...seriously...I've had two surgeries on my shoulders and each time they give me valium in my IV while I'm still in the prep area, then when they were giving me the block (which is a long needle in my neck to put my shoulder and arm to sleep) and my arm was bouncing up and down as they poked the nerve with a little electricity to make sure they got the right one (should scare me to death right?) I thought it was funny as hell. So even though they won't be doing a spine block with this surgery I'm sure if you ask your anatheseologist for something to make you a little calmer he/she'll be happy to give you something then the whole process of wheeling into surgery and stuff will be reduced to a happy haze. And most anatheseoligists (I know I'm spelling that wrong) are pretty nice folks and will chat and joke around with you if they know you're nervous. So good luck and think happy thoughts...I truely feel that positive thinking make positive things happen!! Corinna Q
