Stefie, It will all be ok... I actually love the "putting to sleep" part. I look at it as getting some much needed rest. LOL.... You will do fine. This is something you want and if you want it, you will make it work. Best of luck to you. Shawn M.

Hi Stefie I am also concerned about being put to sleep what bothers me is that I lose time... ITS MY TIME DAMNIT GIVE IT BACK Think of the wonderful gift you are giving your daughter by getting this done and moving to a healthier more active you, that will be there for her for a much longer and much more high quality life than you would if you didnt have surgery. Hang in there (not much longer now) Q

Hi! I've never had any surgery and the only time I was under sedative/anesthesia was a few weeks back for my endoscopy. And boy, was that ever GREAT!! ;o) I woke up feeling rested and relaxed. However, I know that waking up after major gastric surgery will not be a walk in the park. I recommend that you talk to your surgeon and tell him how you feel. I've been reading a book about WLS and the writer (who underwent the surgery) talks about different techniques to relax before the surgery (she had someone hypnotize her!!). But the anesthesiologist can give you some happy juice prior to the surgery to relax you. It's completely normal to feel how you're feeling. This is a big step and the unknown is always a little bit (or a lot) scary, no? You'll be fine!! My surgery is on the 10th and I do have to do a pre-op diet (starting this Friday, all liquid protein!!). Good luck. Merci.

I read your post and see that your surgery is the 10th. Mine is the 9th. I am also scared to death of being put to sleep. I have heard that it is normal, but I don't feel normal when I get so worried about going to a hospital and having my insides rearranged! Good luck to you on the 10th, I hope your surgery goes fine, and you have a quick recovery. Linda

Stephanie, We share the same surgery date! I also have 3 little girls so I understand those "what ifs" - I sole searched and KNOW that I am doing tyhe rtight thing for mr and for my beautiful family. Just think what a gift that you are giving your daughter a healtheir , happier mom. THINK POSTITIVE - KNOW that you will be OK. I think that the hardest part will be not picking up ourt little ones for 4 weeks ( from my surgeon) I am a big believer in POSITIVE thinking. keep me posted! wishing you well, Britt

Ok...this is eerie...your name is Stefanie...my name is Stephanie...you're having your re-birthday on Nov 6....my birthday is Nov 6....now, please don't tell me you have a dog named Stella or I'm really going to freak out! Seriously, as the others have said - it's completely normal to be scared. I'm all bravura and postivie thinking, but in the back of my mind is this "oh boy, what if..." tape playing all the time. But we're doing something so completely LIFE AFFIRMING - embrace it - every part of it - even the being scared part! Because WE HAVE THE COURAGE TO ACTUALLY DO THIS!!! We're not sitting on the sidelines whining - NO SIR! We're standing up, saying, "This is MY life and I choose to do this so that life will be better, so that I can be around for my daughter for a very long time (well, dog, in my case ), so that I can [insert dream here!]" So - give yourself a big pat on the back and a big hug!! Warm thoughts, Stephanie

(((( Stefie )))) like Jackie said.... we are all going thru the same feelings, and it's natural. Just know that every thing will be fine. Know that you are in my prayers as in many others, we're all here for you What kind of surgery are you having?? If its the open RNY, you may not have to do a preop diet. Even so some doctors only require a 2 day diet. They are all different. Keep us posted Huggs & Blessings, Lori
