Well I was denied! I got the call from my surgeons office this morning saying I was denied because "I continue to over eat, I gained 10 pounds, and that I won't be able to follow post op diet. Has anyone out there had this reason? I will appeal, but I don't know what to say. Any suggestions appreciated.

(((((((((((((((Big Hug 2 U))))))))))) I am so sorry... of course you shoudl appeal.... I don't think it means you continue to overeat, I think it means that without the sugery you will continue to NOT lose weight... But what do I know..... Hopefully when you appeal you will get approved. Don't give up, if you really want this and keep persueing it, they will see that. Best of Luck to you and keep us posted on how it is going. Shawn M.

I'm very sorry to hear this. Our surgeon handed out a paper when I had my initial visit that said if I gained 20 or more lbs then they would not do the surgery. I haven't heard but I would definitely fight it. There could be a million reasons, like 5 lb gain for your period.....don't take it lightly fight for what is yours!! Michelle

HI Ladies, THANKS FOR THE SUPPORT!! I will appeal. I am just down. I had a feeling though, that my insurance would pull something. My surgeons office isn't saying anything they told me initally they don't ask their patients to lose anything. so this is coming from the insurance company.

That's horrible.. what a letdown! I came precariously (sp?) close to this happening, so you are not alone here... I was told I had to lose 4 lbs (because I had gained some too) otherwise they are not convinced you're "with the program" and will refuse surgery. In my case, all I have to do is show I'm "losing" so even down a couple lbs will be good enough, definately can't gain ANY. They even suggested stopping into the office now and then for a weigh-in that could just go straight into my chart (no appt or Dr visit necessary)... maybe that would work for you too...? If you are able to lose 2 or 3 lbs, maybe you can stop in just for a weigh-in, just to show them you're serious? In any event, I know it's a difficult position to be in, but hopefully they will reconsider or approve on appeal. Best of luck, Marilyn

Hi, I dont know much about how things work in the states with insurance, as I am in Australia and self pay anyway. I just wanted to say that I am thinking about you and hope that you get the surgery that you want and appeals go well. Take Care Q

That is rediculous! Isn't the fact that you have a hard time controlling how much you eat the reason you're getting the surgery?? What Insurance do you have. My surgeon only had to give the initial consultation weight, not if I had gained any. That sucks!!!! I would appeal and bug them every day, the insurance I mean!
