Lots of questions
* What type of pre-testing will I be having the end of this month?
*Is it different for everyone?
* Does everyone have to have the sleep study?
* I'm 56 years old. I'm having an Open RNY. Are there any other "ELDERS" in November?
It's comforting to hear that their are others that are getting rather emotional. I thought I was losing it! Any answers you can give would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Peg
Hi Peg
I am 60 years old and am having mine in november, I did not have to have the sleep study done because I had so many other health issues.
Probably every doctor is different but I had to have the upper GI, a psy evaluation,go to a class for two hours, blood work and letters from my primary physician and heart doctor. I am just waiting for my date but Its suppose to be soon.
As far as being emotional, I think it normal, yesterday I just started to cry for no reason, just a lot of anxiety, this is a big deal but I have no fears normally, its just over welming, I am ready to get this done. Everyone on the site is so nice and will answer any question. When you feel that way, get busy doing something to take your mind off of it.

* What type of pre-testing will I be having the end of this month?
FOR PRE OP TESTS I HAD AN UPPER ENDOSCOPY, STRESS TEST, EKG,( CARDIOLOGIST ) ECHOCARDIOGRAM, BLOOD WORK, BREATHING TEST (PULMONARY DR) NUTRITIONIST CONSULT - PSYCHOLOGIST
PRE-SURGICAL TESTING AT THE HOSPITAL BEFORE SURGERY - EKG - CHEST X-RAY - BLOOD - EXAM - BP
*Is it different for everyone? YES - from what i see it is.
* Does everyone have to have the sleep study? NO - I wasn't required to have one.
I hope this helps.
Do you have the book "WLS for dummies"? If not get it - it is a really easy read and VERY imformative!
best wishes to you,
Britt
I second what Britt said about the book. It is like my Bible for WLS now. That book as so much information in it. I think that is what has kept me from the need to ask a lot of questions. I highly recommend "WLS for Dummies" before having your surgery.
Good Luck and congrats on your upcoming surgery.

I just have one more test (upper GI) to be finished all my pre op tests.
I didn't have to have a sleep study, but my brother-in-law did. He has sleep problems, I guess. I had to have a PFT (pulmonary function), an EKG, and a stress test.
?? What is an Upper GI like????
I'm all over the board with my emotions, one minute flying high, the next nervous as can be!!! You are not alone
Thanks to everyone for their honesty and sharing their educated minds! My next appointments are on 10/31. This will be a groupmeeting with the nutritionist, and then begin Pre-Admission testing after that. Who and when tells you what tests they feel you will need? Or are you just moved from room to room for each neccessary test?
Thanks,
Peg
Hi Peg,
I'm 46, but will be 47 3 days before my surgery on the 29th!! I'm also am having the open RNY. As for different tests.... it sure does look like it varies with the doctors along with the pre-op diets. I didnt have to have the upper GI, stress, or breathing test. I did have to have the sleep study done, which I guess is a good thing, since as it turned out they classified me as severe. I've had my sleeping buddy ( cpap ) now since end of August, and I still hate it, every time I move I have to adjust the durn mask!!
Welcome to the November boards !!
Huggs & Blessings,
Lori
