Hi Everyone! I am having RNY on 11/9 too! Everyone please write to me and I will add you to my friends list. Tell me your story. Here is the short version of mine...I am a "lightweight", 226 lbs (on the doc's scale). I have type 2 diabetes for which I take 4 meds (next step insulin) and can control it pretty well, high cholesterol for which i have been on lipitor for years and sleep apnea for which I use a CPAP. I am a youthful 52 and have a thin husband and two adult sons, 25 and 22. Obesity runs in my family, my mom is 70 and is struggling with diabetes. Diabetes is a terrible disease and I want to cure it before it gets worse. I have never been thin and have been overweight since about 1984. I hide my weight well so most people are shocked that I am going to go through with GBS. What is everyone doing to prepare???????????? Good luck and write back.
Wow Sheri, we have a lot in common! I am having RNY on 11/8; I'm also 52 and married to a "normal" size guy, have a son and daughter 27 & 24. I'm also a "lightweight" (don't you just LOVE that?!) LOL as I'm 5'5" and currently weigh 238. I'm also battling most of the same medical problems, which is what really led me to take this step. I've been Type II Diabetic for about 12 years, and am also on 4 meds... and not super well controlled any more, at that. I'm also hypertensive (although that is controlled well with med) and during all my pre-op testing I was discovered to have asthma and sleep apnea; I've been on CPAP since the middle of August. Whew!! I too have been obese since the early '80's (that pesky pregnancy weight LOL) and am ready to put this all behind me and start a new, much healthier life! Best of luck to you as we share this journey,,, please do keep in touch! Hugs,
Trish
