Getting Ready....
Hello!
I too am getting ready for surgery. I have done all the steps and have had all the tests, been approved by my insurance, and now the program director just needs to call me with my date. I think it will be the first week of November, which is very soon! Within my bariatric program through the hospital and surgeon, I received a book that mentioned the following for the hospital. The book is called "Weight Loss Surgery, Finding The Thin Person Hiding Inside You!" It is by Barbara Thompson, a person who actually had WLS, Roux-en-Y. So, here you go. I hope this helps!
A pillow
A fan
Lip balm
Body lotion
Slippers
Nightgown
Camera
Reading material
Family photos
Clock
Toiletries - hairbrush, toothbrush, toothpaste, makeup, etc.
A long handled spoon (please see one of my previous posts on this one!)
Talcum powder
Comfortable clothes to go home in
I know, this all seems a little excessive, but I think it's a pretty good list to get us by.
Good luck to all of you! I will soon be posting "I'VE GOT A DATE" as soon as the program calls me. WEEEEE I can't wait!
I hope this helps!
Tina
Hi Ladies, I clicked on this link from the main board and as a 14+ month out post op, I have to agree with every thing that the others have posted to prepare for and take to the hospital so I won't repeat those answers. A couple of things I remember having and was so glad I did, was some OTC pain meds. For me I got the jr. strength tylenol in the rapid desolve tabs. These are great a couple days later when you are going off the prescription pain drugs and also Colace (walmart brand is cheap and works great) This is a stool softner and some people really need it and others have the opposite problem. For me I tend to be constipated easy anyway and after the surgery with all the protein and lack of fiber and drinking is tough at first, these really helped. These are just a couple of the things that fall into the "you don't want to have to go out and get them when you need them now" things. You are doing great to use this time to prepare and get ready for your surgeries. I stopped soft drinks for six months before surgery and have not had one since, this was " my" vice pre- surgery . I used to drink 6-10 diet cokes a day. Good luck to you all and if you ever want to email me with any question, it would never be a problem! This is a life changing journey, won't always be easy but a year from now you will not believe the change. {{{{hugs to you all}}}}
Hi! I have been working hard at preparing for my surgery for six months now. Gave up caffeine and carbonatd drinks. Go to gym 2 to three times a week and treadmill at home in between. Watching what I eat, but get very discouraged with my preop weight loss...what if the surgery doesn't work on me??? I've tried several different protein drinks and have bought chewable calcium and vitamins and sublingual B-complex.I've bought some small containers (for packing lunches) and extra measuring cups, etc. I meet with the dietitian next week, then another surgeon appointment, two week liquid diet and hopefully surgery about the third week in November. (Thanksgiving week!) Whew! Cross your fingers for me that my NUT appointment goes okay. All my other testing is done and turned in to my bariatric coordinator, so this should be my last hurdle.
