Topic: RE: Height and goal weight?
Hi Ellen, I am in a similar situation. I am 5'9" and started at 283 prior to surgery. I am now hanging around 184-187 pounds.. just shy of 100 loss. My surgeon didn't give me a goal weight, just said that losing 60%-80% of the excess is considered a successful ooutcome. Since I had about 100-120 to lose (my goal) I guess that makes me successful. BUT I still want to lose down to about 165-170. That way if I have some rebound weight gain.. and I am told that up to 20 pounds is the average for those who do rebound.. I am still in the 175-180 pound range. If you decide to have plastic surgery to remove any excess, that will lower your weight again by removing the flab. I'd love to be where you are. I am stuck.. up and down over the same 3-4 pounds for the past month. Makes me crazy..lol. Hope this helps you! Jacki K from PA 283/187/165

Ellen; Have you asked your surgeon for a goal weight? Mine didn't give me my goal until my 5 month follow up appointment because she wanted me to focus on smaller goals upfront. I'm under 5'5", so I can't help you with a goal weight at your height. Blessings, Jennifer 253 / 161 / 137

Topic: Height and goal weight?
My surgeon did not give me a goal weight. I am 5'8" and was 263 day of surgery. 270 at my highest weight. I was wondering if anyone else fits this profile and what their goal is. I am currently 172.8 so I am pretty happy with it. I even say if I don't loose another pound I would be ok with that, but I am still wondering what is a good goal. Thanks, Ellen

Topic: Banded November 14, 2005
Well, I've been here reading the posts of people who had surgery during the same month I did. I know that some of us are banded and some of us are RNY patients. To those of you who are banded, what has your weight loss been thus far and how many fills have you had? I started out at 308 and weighed 244 this morning. That number fluctuates but its close. There have been weeks that I gained but not many...not many weeks and not many pounds. My BMI is coming down nicely and I've had fills from 3cc as the primer to 5.2 then 7.5 and now 9.2. I've been there since the first week in May. The weight loss is slow and the plateaus linger. So, I thought I'd ask some of you how your progress was. And, if you could give me your best tip for making the band work for you, what would it be? La Wanda

Topic: RE: Constipation
Oh Terri do I understand what you mean! I had some female trouble and now take 2- 65mg iron a day. So...constipation is my battle everyday. I've tried it all...more water, prunes, fiber (in many ways), stool softners, MOM, and the truth is that nothing really works all the time. I have to switch things up all the time to get things moving. Let me know if you find a miracle CURE. Tanya -119

Hi Amy Thanks for the concern. I think I should have clarified...the diet pepsi trick is a last resort when I'm in pain and stuck in the bathroom. I've had issues with sweetners and other foods since before surgery and am very familiar with this form of dumping. It's like anything else really...is ingesting that particular item worth the price? Generally not, but occasionally you gotta do what you gotta do. Heck, I've dumped (in this sense, chills, sweats, vomiting, etc) on liquid iron and my vitamins at times. They're needed..so I try a different vitamin (no choice for the iron) later on and hope I don't have the same reaction. Unfortunately MOM, Pepto, Immodium, etc etc are not really options as most tend to mae me sick. chelle
