Amounts
As we all know everyones pouch is different. Many of us are coming up to the 6to9 month area where our pouch will relax and be able to consume more food. What amount of food is your meals or snacks?
Lets get real about this. I worry that I might be eating to much at times.
I can consume between 3 to 5 ounces of food depending on the food. My dinner usually consists of Chicken breast at portion size of 4 ounces.
My lunch is usually turkey delu met sliced meadium with a .5 ounce of swiss cheese and I smear pesto on it and roll it up and eat that sometimes I can eat two which would be the 4 maybe 5 ounces for the meal. I am scared I am eating to much to early. A friend of mine that is 6 weeks younger in operation can eat 3/4 cup of food, so whay does everyone eat. I want to make sure I am having good eating habits now and not end up in the gaining arena after the honeymoon is over.

Hi Amy,
Guess I'm not the only one. I will be 5 months out on the 17th (next Monday). I can eat a lot more than I could just 2 weeks ago. I find it to be quite frightening. I can eat 4 to 5 oz's. at a time depending on what it is. I can also drink my liquids now instead of just sipping them. Being able to eat, and drink like this makes me nervous. I don't like it at all.
God bless you,
Annette
Hey Annette!
You sound just like ME!
But I don't think this much
food is a problem. There for a while,
I wasn't eating much...fear!
But I didn't lose as well either.
So, I upped my calories and
started doing much better.
As far as the drinking goes,
I can gulp with the best of 'em!
Just try to keep track of your
caloric intake and I think
you'll do fine...Janet~
Dear Amy,
Today is the end of my 5th month, and I usually eat 3 oz. of protein at dinner and 4 oz. of protein at lunch. Breakfast is usually a Power Crunch bar or a couple of eggs. I also weigh my food rather than measure it in a cup. I don't know that it is a problem to be increasing how much food you can eat. I still keep track of my calories too keep them under control, and I exercise, so as long as the loss continues and I feel good, I'm not too worried. If I eat too little, I actually slow down the loss and get really tired. I know that I have one more month of the "honeymoon" period and then I should expect a slow down. Knowing that helps me not panic.
I'm with you in terms of developing good habits now in preparation for when it is more challenging later. I'm working on changing my attitude towards exercise (still not my favorite thing) and food (it is for nutrition, not emotions) as the head seems to be the most important element in continued success. It has been great to loose so quickly, but I know that is not going to continue. I have to be realistic about that. But even if it is slow and steady, it is still coming off.
I am down 98.6 lbs. as of this morning.
Sally
Hello, I can eat 3/4 of a weigh****chers meal,
a wendy's small chili,
a junior beef, with 1/2 a bun
I can have a bowl of raisen bran with bannan, it all depends on the day though, as sometimes I can eat the meal, and others a few bites. I really should measure, cuz I feel at ttiems I can eat to much.
But on the other hand, if I dont, I am starving...
it's so hard..

Amy, good question. Again I realize I am a December baby, but I also am worried that I am eating too much. I have not gotten any guidance from my surgeon's office. Their NUT left in December and they just recently replaced her...have not met her yet. For me it still depends on the density of the food. I can eat a couple of ounces of meat at a time, but I can eat an entire portion of oatmeal. I can eat an entire South Beach Pizza - those I have for a treat once in a great while. I track everything on Fitday and mostly stay between 650 and 850 calories. Other than the pizza I have not tried bread, pasta, potato or anything like that. At first the pouch really let me know that three bites was enough, that is over for me now. I have tried to just follow a schedule and watch my blood sugar. My husband and I have had an ongoing debate about ounces by actual weight or ounces by volume. It makes a huge difference and I honestly don't know the answer. The Nurse Practioner from B.center thinks that post ops should be able to live on two little one ounce cups of whatever you put in them. That did work for a few months. She believes that six bites in one half hour is all a body needs to survive.
