Weightloss cause vision change?
Just wondering if anyone has had vision changes since their surgery. My glasses don't seem to work as well anymore and I'm wondering if this has anything to do with the surgery, or if it's just time for new glasses.
I don't want to buy new glasses if my vision will change again as I continue to lose weight, but I'm having trouble at work.
Thanks for any opinions.
Kimberly
Hi Kimberly,
It's funny that you should ask. We were discussing this at a support group meeting about a month ago. Many of the people were complaining about thier vision getting worse, bluring, having double vision, going in and out of focus etc. I thought well maybe my glasses just don't right anymore or maybe it's time for new glasses, but the ones I have are less than a year old. one of the surgeons at our hospital asked each of us to e-mail hin with our symptoms, when we had our surgery, and when we started having eye problems (post-op) with our eyes. He is checking this out and con****ing with the op...eye doctor. He said he will let us know what he find's out.
God bless you,
Annette
This is what I know about the vision thing... if you are diabetic, your blood sugar levels affect your vision. This is especially true when your blood sugar levels are HIGH; it causes decreased vision.
I am a diabetic. Before surgery my eye sight varied depending on my blood sugar levels. I wear glasses, but often times they didn't do much good. I decided to wait until after surgery before going to the eye doctor, so that my diabetes was more stable. Within a week after surgery, my blood sugar levels have registered in the normal range consistantly. I visited my eye doctor this past Saturday and my vision is significantly WORSE than during my last exam, about 16 months ago. It's so bad, she's concerned that I don't have glasses that truly correct my vision, so she's put a rush on getting them back from the manufacturer where the lenses are made (like for driving and work!) She does NOT know about my WLS as she is a new doctor for me.
I'm going to bring this up at my next support group meeting at the hospital and see what they say. Often one of the surgeons and/or their RNs are there.
Weird!

Kimberly, I am diabetic. I had my regular appt with my ophthalmologist on Jan 25. She said no wonder your vision is blurry, your glasses are too strong! My vision had improved along with my blood sugars!
It's not unusual to have vision changes associated with changing blood sugars. I don't know if that's a possible cause for your changes.

My vision seems to have gotten worse since surgery. I didn't know if it was because of my age or the surgery. I have to take my glasses off to read now. I can't go from reading something with my glasses on to like looking at the computer screen without blurring. I am 45. So I didn't know if it was old age. I definitely have to get new glasses. I can see far away ok even though I think even that sight has gotten worse with glasses but it is going from close up to far away that is the huge problem. I was prediabetic.
