Question - Cramps
Hi Everyone,
I have a question. When I was a teenager I had severe monthly cramps.
When I gained my weight, my cycle became irregular. After surgery, my cramps have came back with a vengence, except now I cannot take anaprox or any NASID's. I take Tylenol 3 which has codine in it, but it doesn't seem to be strong enough. Do you guy's know of any other type of pain meds. that could be taken for cramps?
General info.
Surgery date: 11-2-05
Starting weight after surgery: 486
3 month post op weight: 409

Dawn;
You should probably contact your Gyn. If Tylenol w/ Codeine isn't taking care of the discomfort, it may be more than just cramps.
I only say this because we had to take my cousin to the ER for what she thought was severe cramps. It turned out she had a blocked fillopian tube and is going to require surgery to resolve the problem.
I hope it's nothing serious, but you've lost a lot of weight in a very short time and it's probably best to have it checked out by your Gyn. If it is just cramps, you may want to consider going on the pill. I had what I considered severe cramps as a teenager and just suffered through, but when I went away to college and started seeing a Gyn, I went on the pill to regulate my cycle and now, I never have cramps.
Blessings,
Jennifer

Dear Dawn,
If they are "just" cramps, you might also try a heating pad for at home and one of those heat patches that you can wear for during the day. I use the heat patches on my arthritic knees sometimes and they do help. They are supposed to help for cramps as well.
Best of luck and congradulations on you weight loss.

You need to talk to your gyn. Depending on your age, ypou may be experiencing common preimenopausal symtoms. These include bad cramping and heavy and/or irregular flows. My gyn said that the treatment for these issues was use of birth control pills. I ultimately had a hystersctomy due to these problems. Talk to you gyn abdoutwhat you are expereincing. Good luck.
Hi
Although you should see you doctor first, if it is just cramps then I heartily recommend ThermaCare heat pads. I get quite horrible pain (always have done) and miss advil. Tylenol never works. However, the pads really do the trick. I've been known to put one on my front, one on my back and then sit with a blissful expression on my face as the heat seeps through. They last for eight hours but the effect seems to last longer.
Good luck & congrats on the weight loss...
Helen
