I had my surgury Nov 9, 2005. I lost 55 pounds. My problem is, I am bored with the food I'm eating. I have yogurt, cheese, Chicken, Tuna or soup. Sometimes I will go to subway, and I can eat a 6in turkey sub, but I don't like to do that to often. Do you have any suggestions for meals? I would like to add more protien to my diet too. I am on the go a lot, so I would also like some tips for quick meals. Thanks for your help. Tina

Well... Yesterday I had a protein drink, Blueberry Bran muffin (home-made/recipe WLS friendly,) 1/2 Lean Cuisine meatloaf/mashed potatoes frozen dinner. Another protein drink in the afternoon, and home for chicken baked in a sauce with veggies. When I'm at home I eat more frequently, but when I'm working, especially on day like Tuesday, I just don't have time. That's why I added the afternoon protein drink. I don't always need that. Other ideas are: shrimp, scallops, talipia, salmon (all fast and easy to make) chicken (keep it moist or with a sauce,) turkey burgers w/cheese, shaved deli meat, hummus, chili, pizza made with 1/2 pita (sauce and lots of cheese,) spaghetti with meat sauce on whole wheat pasta, pot roast cooked until it's falling apart (make sure to eat with a little gravy for moisture,) omlets, chicken salad/ham salad/shrimp salad/crab salad. I also look for protein in EVERYTHING... I use Kashi's cooked cereal (9 g protein) and make it with 2/3 cup of skim milk, then add a couple of teaspoons of fresh/frozen blueberries and a packet of equal. Yummm and it has 15 g of protein between the cereal and milk! You could even boost it with some added whey powder. For even more ideas, google "WLS recipies" and you'll get LOTS of hits with good ideas. You can make almost anything WLS friendly. FYI: I spent a lot of time doing this right after surgery, so now I have lots of ideas whenever I'm bored! Good luck! Tammy

I had my surgery on Nov. 15th and still prefer my meat in some kind of sauce for moisture. I live alone so I have a lot of leftovers and grilled anything simply doesn't reheat well! I make a lot of stews and gumbos. (If you brown the flour in the oven before using it, you don't have to have a lot of oil to get the taste of a roux!) If you like to cook, I'd suggest you try the Whole Foods grocery store website as they have a lot of great recipes--including nutrition information--that can work. I tend to freeze about half of any recipe, and have about two or three main meal options. This week I have beef stew, chicken and sausage gumbo, and a seafood stew all made to choose from. Then I also have a tuna or salmon salad ready as a lunch option. For the protein on the go, I have to say the only thing I've found in terms of supplements is the Protica drink. It is only 3 oz. but with 25grams of protein and 100 calories. You don't have to mix it with anything, so you can travel with it. I can't stand most protein drinks (they smell funny) so this one (and the Jay Robb brand) are the only ones I can get down. If you don't like to cook, you might try some of the frozen South Beach meals and just avoid the items that disagree with you. Best of luck, Sally

tina, wow it was interesting to see what ppl r eating and i even got some good ideas. glad u asked this!! as for me im still eating yogurt or omlets for breakfast. my friend (which is also post op) told me bout her deli roll ups. u take some lunch or deli meat thinly sliced and spread some cream cheese on it. then roll it up and wha~la... and its not bad. i have egg salad sometimes but i got burnt out on it so i havent had it in awhile. i eat alot of shrimp and i can even eat some steak cut up in tiny bites. me and chicken just arent agreeing right now. o i been on a sour cream kick so i have had some 'nachos' lately. and i still eat some cottage cheese too. i also do protein shakes everyday to help with my protein levels if needed. when i HAD to have a crunchy snack ive had alittle chex mix or ive even tried some banana chips. not much though at one time. hope this helps and try the roll ups~~not too bad if u like cream cheese. lisa -50 lbs -68.5 inches

I'm struggling too with ideas. I snack on Crispix cereal and cashews. For breakfast, I usually have cottage cheese and sugar free jello. The jello gives the cottage cheese some flavor. Our local grocery store has the rotissere chickens, so thats a great option. I've bought some of the South Beach meals, they aren't bad. In fact, this weekend, I had a chicken wrap with mandarin orange dressing. They are with the Lunchables and it was really good. It comes with 2, so it was enough for 2 lunches. I fix a sweet potato until it falls apart and ma**** Add butter and sweetnlow brown sugar. It goes great with the chicken. Also, I'll make some homemade applesauce and have a little dab of that too. Not a bad little meal. I haven't tried going out to eat much. I just hate to get such a large order and end up taking it all home to eat on for a week! Keep the suggestions coming!!!! Nancy H

I had my surgery three months ago. I'm eating a lot of chili with l/f cheese on top. Sometimes to make it more exciting I stir in some corn chips. I also eat a lot of cottage cheese and omlets (with ham, cheese, green peppers and tomatos, yummmm). Oh, and the other day with my omlet I had about four bites of a whole-wheat pancake with s/f syrup, it was fantastic! That's basically it...not too exciting, hope it gives you some ideas. Egg salad or Tuna salad made with light mayo, no bread, just the salad Soup, if it does not have any noodles or rice If I am out and need to eat, I try to find a Subway and get a LC wrap. The turkey bacon ranch is really good and very low in carbs. Sometimes I can eat half of it, sometimes I can't. Protein shakes made with Carb Countdown milk. I've recently started adding frozen berries to some of my shakes. I mix them up in my Magic Bullet. Turkey Burgers. Jennie-O brand comes already formed into patties and frozen. Roast cooked in the crock pot deli meat rolled up with cheese eggs, either scrambled, hard boiled or deviled Ham, cooked in the crock pot Collard greens, broccoli, cauliflower, romaine lettuce Raw carrots and red and yellow peppers I still can't eat chicken. It gets stuck and is VERY uncomfortable.
