Stupid Question time....
When you say you've lost xx amount of weight, are you using weight when you went into hospital until now, or weight when you first visited surgeon's office?
My surgeon's office insists on including the 17 pounds I lost on the 3 month program my insurance required.
But I'm more inclined to use my weight the morning I went to the hospital...
It just drives me crazy that we can't get on the same page!
Told you it was stupid, I could just go with the surgeon's office, but that makes me feel like I'm fibbing or something.... LOL

I think this is a great question. I use my weight at home the day of surgery but the truth of the matter is that any weight loss should be counted. I mean we lost it...no matter if it was before or after a surgical procedure. So, I think we should be proud of what ALL that we have lost.

I count all of it. I actually lost 9.5lbs before my first office visit and then 6lbs between my first office visit and surgery day. I count all of it.
I didn't at first but then my DH got on to me about it saying I worked as hard or harder for the amount lost before surgery. I figure he's right and count it all.

Karen I think that is a great question because I am always wondering the same thing when people post their weight~
I start from the morning of surgery because I know that it was the surgery that helped me lose these pounds...........

I gained like 7 pounds and my Dr said as long as it wasnt 10 I was still cleared for surgery...........thank goodness!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Karen,
My surgeon counts from the final weigh in pre-op, but say's we lost the weight and should count the pre-op loss as our own personal weight loss goals. My insurance co. told me I needed to lose 20 pounds so start trying. Before I ever meet my surgeon I lost 22 #'s. That is recorded in my medical chart with my p.c.p. My surgeon told me I had to lose an additional 30 #'s pre-op. I lost a total of 66 #'s pre-op. I lost the weight and I will claim the loss. I do put it down as my highest weight. Then my pre-op weight, then current weight. It may get confussing, but you did lose it so give yourself credit for your loss.
God bless you,
Annette

My surgeons office uses the weight I was when I went in for my pre-surgery appointment, which is a few lbs more than I was pre-op and less than what I was when I first started losing weight.
When anyone (other than the surgeons office) asks what my weight loss is I tell them "35 since surgery for a total of 65"
I always round to the next highest 5lbs, unless I have been to my GPs office..... that is where I first weighed in when I started the "3 month insurance requirement". And I consider is scale my "official weigh-in" even though I weigh myself at home every monday evening.
Basically,
you aren't the only one being driven crazy!
