I've got to know!
Have any of my follow November friends had any diet pop yet? Does your surgeon allow it? Mine is totally against it and this is the only thing I have done against his wishes. I learned if I pour a caffinee free diet coke over ice and let it sit for awhile and sip on it.. I am okay. I don;t drink it often.. maybe I should just stay away from it period. My sister had surgery also and her surgeon allowed it after 4 weeks.. I guess everybody's Dr. has his/her own way of wanting things. What do you feel about it?

kim,
my dr allows it if we let it go flat and its diet. i have tried it and to tell u the truth it just doesnt taste the same to me anymore. i used to be totally addicted to regular coke and now it tastes all syrupy to me. yuck!! but everyone has their own opinion. but for me, its easy to stay away from.

See Lisa... very intresting that each surgeon has their own guidelines. Re: Regular Coke... OMG! I was so addicted at one time in my past life there was nothing better than an ice cold coke... of course that usually was followed by a King Size Whopper Meal Jeezz... don't even know that person anymore!
Thanks!
Kim
My surgeon doesn't allow it ever once you're post-op and I haven't tried it. I wasn't a big soda drinker pre-op, so I didn't expect this to be a problem for me, but for some reason, it's the only thing I crave.
I've noticed that Crystal Light has a very chemical taste to me now. The only thing I can think of is that it's because of the Nutrasweet. So far, I've been able to use that to deter me from sampling a diet soda.
Good luck!

We all have our DEMONS to fight and it sounds like diet soda is yours. I was never a big soda drinker before WLS and therefore it was easy for me to omit from my diet completely. BUT you're correct...physicians have varing opinions on this topic. It's quite interesting that we can have the same operation and yet the post-op requirements vary by doctor. WILD I must admit I have caved into my chocolate craving during PMS time and had 2 or 3 hershey's kisses. I didn't get sick but knew to stop at 3 because my pouch gave me a "warning" Physician guidelines are just that guidelines...they expect us to do our best BUT nobody is perfect! Just keep that in mind no matter what you decide. I think too often we beat ourselves up post-op thinking we should live by the rules 100% and rules are there for a reason...I just think that there has to be some type of medium ground.

My surgeon says no soda until at least 6 months out, but I was warned it might not agree with me. I was a HUGE soda drinker before surgery, and I struggled and gave it up a month ahead of time thinking I wouldn't miss it so much. I don't really, except when I am really thirsty after eating a spicy meal. Then a Coke would taste good.
I had read somewhere that one of the convenience stores sells Diet Coke slushies, I wish I could remember which one, because then you'd get the taste without the fizz.
