Diana M - Response on Slow weight loss
Diana,
I am not sure which board you read my response on. I tried to email you but it bounced back to I hope you find this message in your response to question on slow weight loss and how many times I eat a day.
I weighed 299 the day of surgery. I weighed 310 after leaving the hospital 2 days later and today I weigh 277.5. My surgery was 11/1/05. This would give me an average of 4 pounds per week but the loss is more like 2-3 pounds per week. At this rate, I should be at my goal by my 1 year anniversary. My niece is a slow loser as well but she is up to 80 pounds lost since June of last year. It starts to add up.
It is so funny that the advice on eating by the doctors are so different. My doctor told me to eat 5 to 6 very small meals a day to keep my metabolism going which is the same as South Beach. The foods I am to eat are also in line with the South Beach Program, all complex carbs, no refined products, lean proteins. He told me that my loss was slow because I let too much time pass before eating again. I am to eat something every 2 hours. This is the suggested plan and I try to stick with the time frames as closely as possible.
6:00 a.m.
1 high protein low carb shake (6 carbs or less) within 1/2 hour of waking
8:00 am
1 ! scrambled egg and 1/4 cup oatmeal
10:00 am
4 oz fruit flavored nonfat lite yogurt
Noon
1-2 tablespoons brown rice
1/2 to 1 piece of broiled fish
3:00
piece of fruit
6:00
Salad with italian dressing
1/2 to 1 piece of broiled/grilled fish or chicken
Exercise
8:00 pm
1 high protein shake
I am also a slow loser. I have been averaging 3-5 lbs a week, and I am completely happy with it. My NUT told me that I should be aiming for 3 lbs a week to be successful and have my body adjust properly. I know weigh****chers recommends a weight loss of 1-2 lbs a week. I think 3-5 lbs a week is great! If I continue at this rate, I will be at goal by November 29th, 2006. I am so excited!!! Good luck!
Carla
Any Complex carb would work in place of rice. If you can't eat salads, just add another low starch vegetable. See the link below for South Beach allowable foods/low glycemic foods.
