Looking for support
Hello all! My name is Leslie. I have just started my WLS trip. I went to my first seminar and have scheduled my first appt for 2/2/06 for my physical and to start the ball rolling. My main issue is that neither one of my insurances cover the surgery so I'm on my own. I just hope I am one of the satisfied customers. I've read some of the posts and I hope that I can be as successful and happy as you all seem to be. I hope you all continue to succeed and remain healthy and happy.
Dear Leslie,
I had my surgery in November, so I am just starting my third month out. From what I have read, heard, and experienced success is really about what goes on in your head as well as having a good surgeon. I have to readjust how I think about and value food (especially in social situations), pay closer attention to my body's nutritional needs, and be more self-disciplined than ever before. My surgery went great--no problems whatsoever--and I was back to work in two weeks.
But I also make use of all sorts of tools in addition to my new "tool." I keep a food diary with proteins and calories, vitamins, exercise, and liquids. I go to the support groups twice a month. I read a lot both published and on the internet. I bought a recumbant bike because I know me and that I wouldn't get out in winter to exercise. I also attend the behavioral sessions required. And I am willing to change my ways when it comes to food. Probably one of the toughest things I've had to learn to do, so far, is throw away food!
I have also determined that my goals are behavioral not weight. Am I doing what I am supposed to do? If yes, than I've met my goal even if I don't lose a pound that week. This is tough for me to focus on some weeks as everyone wants to lose the weight immediately!
I guess I just want to encourage you now that you are on the way. You have control over your success because you have control over your choices. Once the surgery is over and all is well--which I am going to assume will be your case .
Best wishes,
Sally
