Well gang, this week is my first time I've been alone since my surgery on 11/15. My husband travels a lot on business, but my mom and stepdad were here from 11/12-12/27. Hubby was in town through the holidays and last week, my best friend visited from London. I don't know how to cook any of the foods I can eat, so hubby made me a bunch of food that I could reheat before he left yesterday. So far, so good. I've kept everything down since he left. I didn't realize how much I'd gotten used to always having someone around. I promised hubby that I wouldn't try to walk the two dogs on my own. Poor puppies - 1/2 the walks this week. Tomorrow is my weigh in day - yes, I only weigh once a week. If I were to weigh every day, I'd make myself crazy. As always, I'm nervous about it, but am sure it will be good news. Have a great night everyone. I'll probably be on for a LONG time tonight. I don't sleep a lot when I've got the house to myself.

I understand what you mean! We had surgery the same day. My husband travels alot with them military and that busy time starts next month. I am getting back into cooking (for a family of 6) and I think it has been a bad idea for me. Still the cook who taste her cooking..... But I do it at less amounts ! Casey

OK, we had surgery on the same day and my maiden name was Casey. We don't have kids, so when he's out of town, I just have to figure out how to take care of myself (can you tell I'm probably not a good candidate for motherhood?). Be careful about the tastes when you're cooking. You don't want to fill your pouch with stuff that isn't going to give you the nourishment you need to take care of your family.

I had constant supervison the first two weeks after surgery, but have been on my own often ever sense. Luckily, my husband does not travel for work, AND I have a 21 year old daughter who lives at home, but I rarely see much of. If I need her, though, she's here for me (she's a student, works full time, and has a social life!) I return back to work today. Try reading more on cooking after WLS. I enjoy www.BariatricEating.com by Susan Maria. I ended up buy her sample package with her book, which I highly recommend. Where you much of a cook before? It really is a whole new focus, but not really difficult. You should also try googling WLS recipes. What kind of puppies do you have? Are they big? Take care and have a great day Tammy

Tammy; I wasn't much of a cook before. I have a serious issue with touching uncooked meat, so the only things I cook are pasta and cheese quesadillas. Pre-op when my husband would travel, this wasn't a problem, however now with protein requirements, it requires a lot more planning. Hubby has been wonderful; he showed me how to scramble an egg and he did a lot of prep before he left. For instance, he cooked a chicken breast and divided it into four meals so all I have to do is reheat in the microwave. I'll check into the Bariatric Eating web site. Hubby would probably like some new recipes for when we start getting bored in the next few weeks. We have two German Shorthaired Pointers. Coco will be 6 years old in June and weighs 41 lbs. She was the runt of her litter, but I love that since my weigh in last week, I've been able to tell my in-laws (who didn't know I was having surgery pre-op and haven't seen me post-op) that I've lost an entire Coco. Cosmo is 9 months old today and he's tipping the scales at 58 lbs. And, he is ALL puppy. Very ambitious and clumsy. Good luck on your first day back to work. I went back 13 days post-op. I was tired the first few days, but was able to ease back into the routine fairly easily. Jennifer

What kind of job do you have that you went back so quickly? I was originally going to go back part-time after 4 weeks and then full after 2 more, but because of the injury to my shoulder and arm (read more on my profile,) my doctor said 6 full weeks. Actually, I could have been approved for more time, but I couldn't stand being home any longer. I'm a bank manager, work 10+ hours per day, and I'm on my feet 6+ of those hours. There's no slow down until we close, and then I have paperwor****il the cows come home! It's a very stressful job and takes a LOT out of a person, but I LOVE IT! Yesterday, I went in for 3 hours just to go through my mail and review/delete emails. I then gathered information for a report due this week and brought that home... worked on it 2 hours last night. There's really no easing in when you are the boss AND deal with customers all day!! The other thing is that my right arm is still in a sling, but that made it easy because my customers assume I was gone because of my shoulder instead of asking why I was gone (I have HUNDREDS of customers, many of whom are elderly and think nothing of asking very personal questions.) Sounds like you have cute dogs! Going to bed now to relax... very tiring 10 hour first day back to work... and I still have some training information to review that has to be presented to my associates by the end of next week, which I brought home to read. Tammy; I'm a Marketing Manager at a hosting company. I actually worked from home four hours a day from the day I came home from the hospital and then started going back to the office 13 days after surgery. The hardest part for me was sitting for long periods of time. I still had a lot of abdominal discomfort, so every few hours, I'd go for a walk around the building to stretch out a bit. I don't think age has anything to do with people asking overly personal questions. I can't believe some of the things people I'd never spoken to before at church have asked me in recent weeks. I'm jealous of you...I wish I could sleep. I finally crashed out at 3am for the alarm to go off at 7am. I was in the office around 8am and just got home from work about 1/2 hour ago (8pm CT). I stopped on my way home and had my hair cut and colored. My stylist says he can already tell that it's thinning. Not really the news I was hoping for after a long day. Get some rest. Jennifer

Wow. I would have felt like a queen to have someone around to help me. My husband was terriffic while I was in the hospital for 2 days. But, once home...he went back to business as usual. I went back to work on day 8 post op. Haven't stopped or looked back since. I've cooked every meal - or we would starve.

I think that is cool that your husband cooks for you. I am the cook in the house, the night before I went into surgery, I made a bunch of his favorite food and put it in the freezer for him, before I knew it I was home and cooking for him again (couldn't even eat it myself). I do love having him around for support, he use to hold my hand when I had to drink that god awful glucerna after surgery, and then just when I start on mushy foods he got sent out to sea (he is in the Navy), so I know what it is like to be by yourself often.
