2 mo post lap RNY, had 2nd balloon today
I am 4 wks post op, my 30 yr old daughter is 2 days short of 2 mo post op, and had to get a balloon DEC 23 and again today. (lives in KC)The first one showed no scarring just a tiny pipe cleaner size stoma....ridiculous,!! Today, the scope showed inflammation and narrowing again, used size 2 balloon instead of size 3. She is having to pay for all this, and I am sad and frustrated...seems since she left 2 days early from hospital, some of this should be included in her cash payment up front. I hope she can keep things down now, and begin to get healthy.
I lost 8 lbs in the 2 wks before surgery and 26 in the first 2 weeks, but I am doing what my dietician said, eating 450-600 calories a day max and today I weigh 1/2 lb less than Christmas Eve . I am swimming and using recumbant bike. HOW DEPRESSING!!!
Anyone had similar experiences as my daughter and I? ( Pam from Seattle)
Hi Pam,
I just had a scope done on Tuesday, boy do I feel better. My Dr. said I had a narrowing of the esophagus and a small stricture on the anastomic side of the stoma. This stuff happens. It's caused by scar tissue building up. My scope Dr. told me I may walk out of there and never have to have this done again, But what is more likely to happen is I will have to do it again, maybe as soon as 2 days, maybe as long as 3 weeks. He also told me it may have to be done 3 or more times before it stay's open. I know one lady that had it done 5 times now. There's no telling when it will need to be done again. I don't want to go through that again, but I would much rather have a scope done than to feel so sick everytime I eat or drink anything.
You may need to up you calories a little bit. My nutritionist said we need to get in between 700 and 900 calories a day to continue to lose weight. They all say something different. You might have hit a plateau. If you keep doing what you're supposed to do the weight will come off. Try to hang in there.
From Christmas day untill Jan 3rd. I could not eat much, I was taking in an average of 40 to 50 calories a day and 16 oz's. of water. During that week I gained 12 pounds. I was told it's because my body went into starvation mode where it hung on to every thing that went into it. Just wondered if your daughter gained weight when she couldn't eat. Hopefully this won't happen again.
God bless you,
Annette
Wow, they tell you some have to get a balloon dilation, but they don't say if you need it it will take 2,3 or more times to fix it.(before the surgery I mean) I do not know about her wt as far as gaining, but I know she said she was mad because she couldn't keekp anything down and still she wasn't losing. I was just thinking earlier myself that maybe ironically I would lose better if my calories were not so low. Thanks.
