I dumped once and get this...it was while I was on my pre-op diet. The pre-op diet that my surgeon requires is virtually zero carb, so I had cut out all sweets, breads, everything (except boneless, skinless chicken breasts and cheese) for 11 days when I had a team outing for work. The place we were at didn't have bottled water or iced tea, so I ordered a Diet Pepsi. I've never been much of a soda drinker, so I didn't really know what to expect in terms of taste. Instead of the Diet Pepsi I had ordered, I was served regular sugared Pepsi (27g of sugar). After I drank about 12 oz., I started sweating and having cramping. I tried to throw up and couldn't get it to come up, so I bailed on the outing and somehow drove myself home. Upon arriving home, my body decided it was time to vomit. It took a couple hours until I was back to normal, but it wasn't fun. I called my surgeon's office the next morning to let them know I'd had a unintentional "hiccup" and find out if it was necessary to move my surgery date. Fortunately, I was able to keep my original date. The limited sweets I've had post-op have not caused me a problem. My problem now is fats, but that's ok, cause I don't really crave anything, so it's not like I'm craving them and not able to keep them down.

Isn't is odd that after you drink a Diet drink for so long it is difficult to tell the difference!

Yes as a matter of fact I dumped last weekend. I was on a small road trip and decided to try a sip of a diet coke. Well I ordered one through McD's drive up and let it sit forever and just kept stirring it to let out the carbonation. Well after a while I started drinking it and had no problems. I drank about 3/4 of a small and started getting this sickening sweet taste in my mouth so I took another sip to see if that would wa**** down and suddenly my stomach started cramping and I got dizzy and cold sweats just wanted to vomit. I had my son taste it and sure enough it wasn't even diet coke it was a regular coke. Once I got home I spoke with the manager of McD's and explained to them how important it is to stick to what people order and nothing else due to people having health issues. Oh well that was my experience and boy did I learn from it Take care, Anita 337/280/150

I have had NO nausea, vomitting, or anything except a sore pouchy when I ate too fast... UNTIL LAST NIGHT! I stopped at Starbucks to get coffee before my support group meeting. They put something in that coffee besides skim milk and equal, because, about half way through (and I drink slooooow) I started to feel light headed, then had cold sweats, head was buzzing and I felt faint! Luckily I was sitting down and I had sipped it slow. I did not feel any nausea, but this felt like classic dumping. Just goes to show, you gotta REALLY watch what's going into your mouth! Tammy

I haven't had any cakes, cookies, pies or sodas so I haven't experienced dumping from straight surgar but I have several times from eating too fast or eating meat that didn't agree with me. I have learned to take it REAL slow and choose safe items to eat. For the last week I haven't had any tightness or feelings when I ate something. I actually feel normal for the first time since surgery. I read everyone's experiences after eating surgary goodies and breads and pasta so I have stayed clear of it! Thank goodness for this board. I have learned so much. Janna

I think I did for the first time today. I ate 5 cashews, they made me very sick. I was dry and at the same time. My heart was pounding and I felt shaky, and cold. Then I felt really . I think I dumped for the first time, not sure though. I am sure that I will never eat nut's again! I thought they were a safe food. I won't even try fatty foods or anything with more than 2 grams of sugar in it. God bless you, Annette
