What are we eating these days????
Hello my November post-op family!!!! Hope you are enjoying the Holidays!!!
I was wondering what you are all eating these days, anyone try anything new? Anyone have trouble with anything?
Last Friday I had a 1/2 slice of deli roastbeef and spent the next 3 hours sick as a dog.............I chewed and chewed but it still was a problem.this is leading me to believe that me and redmeat do not get along anymore
I made Beef Stew on Christmas Eve and I couldnt eat it.........it just didnt "sit well"
Although, hamburg sits well with me beleive it or not..........chili sits great and hamburg patties with cheese sit well too,.............strange.......
toast works for me, but I do not want to eat too many carbs.........
soooooooooooo just wanting to know how you all were doing and would love to hear how you and food are getting along these days!!!

Hello Bethany,
I had my surgery 11/7/05 and am just starting to eat new foods. Had some potato casserole on Christmas and that went down good. Had about 1/10 of a toasted bagel - that was good too. I don't want to get started eating those though as that was my downfall.
I usually eat lentil soup that I put in my Magic bullet, tuna and lite mayo, also in the bullet. I put 5 shrimp in the bullet last night for dinner. That was wonderful.
I have had many episodes of the "foamies" so I have been very careful with any meat. I just stick to tuna and the soup and that is going good this week.
I haven't tried hamburgs yet. I am going to make chili this weekend with chicken sausage. I hope that goes okay.
I also eat a lot of cheese - cottage, and cheddar. That always goes good.
Good luck to you.

Hi Mary Beth,
Thanks for your response
Im now looking at the Magic Bullet online!!! hahaha what a great tool!!! I had heard of it before but never really knew exactly what it was.
So do you make your protein drinks in there as well?
How does the shrimp turn out? What do you add to it?
This is great info thanks so much!!!!

Hi Bethany,
My RNY was on 11/8/05 and now I'm on the "trial and error" phase. So far I've been able to eat everything I've tried with no problems. Today I had a slice of ham for breakfast, 2 prunes for a snack, a half a bean burrito (with some of the tortilla removed) for lunch, and a protien bar after swimming. Tonight I'm having baked chicken and broccoli. I've avoided bread and baked goods except for very limited parts of tortillas in either enchiladas or burritos. I eat cheese often and have done well with chicken, beef, and ham.
I'm so sorry that you are having trouble with foods. I know I've been lucky to have never thrown up since surgery.
Didi
Bethany,
My Doctor recommends not re-introducing red meats until after 6months post-op. I had my surgery 11/2/05 and am doing the trial and error approach. I just discovered Muscle Milk (at GNC) and I finally dont mind having my protein shake. I have had a tough time with Chicken.
Hope that helps.
Christine
HI Bethany,
I'm eating eggs, scrambled, deviled, and boiled. I eat scallops, I've had some hamburger meat, I've eaten ham also with no problem. I've stayed away from bread, had a couple bites of rice (which I don't plan on eating much). I had some trouble when I overate some ham but other than that everything I've eaten including some veggies have gone down well since I had a dialation last week for a mild stricture.
Hi everybody! I'm doing well and tolerating a lot of foods. I'm on the regular modified diet, so I'm trying new things as often as I can because variety is important to me. I got sick of eating eggs early out, and I just can't bear to eat them anymore. I do well with all cheeses, and like to melt cheese on almost everything to get that added protein in... and because it tastes delicious.
I'm fine with chicken if its soft like when it's cooked in a crockpot or the perdue short cuts. I like making salads like chicken salad, shrimp salad, and tuna salad. I get sick of it too soon though, so I usually manage to get in less than 1/2 of a cup. Nothing really tastes as it used to, and after a while it just doesn't taste as good so that's why. I don't mean that I actually "get sick." I just get tired of having it. yuck. I do fine on lunch meats except roast beef or any red meat for that matter. I know instantly whether or not I can chew something enough and red meat is not one of those things.
I like to make diced chicken with ricotta, tomato sauce, a tbsp of small bowtie pastas (and sometimes not w/pasta) and parmesan cheese. it's yummy. I like refried beans and chili too. Christmas Eve we had homemade raviolis. I made them from my Great Grandma's recipe and the filling has chicken, spinach, cream cheese, and parmesan. They are so delicious and I tolerated them very well. I had 3 of them which equaled a 1/2 cup portion.
I also started trying to get at least a small portion of whole grains in my diet to help with movement. I toasted 1/2 of a whole grain english muffin really well and then melted cheese on top. I did fine with it. I also bought Trader Joe's whole grain tortillas. They are SO good and even have flax seeds in them. I ate about 1/3 of one that I spread a little tomato sauce on, some ricotta, mozzarella and thinly sliced meatball. It was the best "healthy pizza" I ever had. Another good whole grain I found is Kavli crackers. They are super super thin and I can chew til they are practically gone.
I try to make the best choice. I mean, we get a 1/2 cup or 4 oz serving so I want to make it worth it! I'm always looking for ideas too, so I hope you all post away.

Hi fellow Novemberites! I'm doing pretty good on regular food now. Had one bad week, the 1st on mechanical soft during wk 4, where I tried to push new foods too fast; a variety of foods got stuck 5 of the 1st 7 days of wk 4. But now I'm fine unless I eat too fast; then I get the foamies.
I like the 'salads' made with tuna, chicken, or salmon mixed with a little reduced fat mayo and pickle relish. I even found some sugar free relish. Amazing how many reduced fat, fat free, and no added sugar foods there are that I never noticed before!
I also eat a lot of seafood - sea scallops, salmon, swordfish, shrimp, crab cakes. They are my favorite. I found some, although a bit pricey, that are endorsed by the American Heart Association with 9 gm protein, 4 carbs, and 2 gm fat for a 1.9 oz cake. It's a weekly treat. Also like deli turkey slices, cheese, and Hormel's fat free turkey chili. Grilled some chicken breasts on my George Forman grill with a little no added sugar Italian sauce. And I just love sugar free cheesecake pudding with a scoop of vanilla Unjury! Haven't tried any red meat yet. Was told to hold off on that until after 3 months. Might try a pork tenderloin in the slow cooker next week. My NUT said that would be a good way to prepare it. For Christmas I had my mom save a few empty egg white shells from her annual deviled egg tray and I made my own filling with blenderized cottage cheese, green onion, and garlic. Yum. 6 gm protein and 34 calories for 2 halves. The recipe is called Guiltless Deviled Eggs. Haven't tried any grains yet.
Go**** sounds like I eat a lot! But as you all know, the portions are small and gee, if I don't have variety, I'll find it hard to follow through with this. Look at all the 'diets' I've tried that got so boring eating the same old things. They didn't help me lose weight and keep it off, did they? This is just good healthy eating without a lot of carbs and fat in small portions.
Needless to say, I am getting about 80-90 gm protein a day; I do drink 1 protein shake a day, though. Hopefully some day I won't have to. I don't mind them. But I am so fearful of losing hair that I'm trying everything I can at this point to minimize the loss when it happens.
Good luck to us all!
Kathy
