Hi guys I am 6 weeks post op today and according to my scale I'm down 37#'s but lately I've been battling the same 1-2#'s up and down and I can't seem to get past it. My question is this since I have a BM only every 4-5 days could this be part of my problem?? I know there are days I don't get in all of my liquids but it is so hard sometimes when I feel like I'm gonna burst from all of the water. If anyone has any suggestions on how to get past this and what your opinion is of my progress so far I would appreciate it. TIA Anita

Dear Anita, A very similar thing happened to me in the 4th and 5th week. I'd be down one day and up 3 lbs. three days later and then back down 3 lbs. in another 3 days. From what I read of other posts, this isn't so strange, but just a "stall" in the body getting adjusted. I think my normal PMS was also contributing to the problem. I usually have a couple of weeks of PMS with various physical symptoms that usually include weight gain and constipation. My doctor told me to take a stool softener (not a laxitive) regularly as constipation can cause serious problems for WLS patients. He told me to adjust the dosage to what I needed for regularity and comfort. So I take one pill every night and have been fine ever since. I do make sure I get all my liquid in--including soy milk or skim milk for the protein. But I was always a water drinker even before the surgery. The weight loss sounds great to me. Sally

Hi Anita, What a great loss! I think it can have something to do with that, I've started adding more protein drinks and muhy things with fiber to keep me going practically every day or every 2. Otherwise, I'm in pain. I think that getting rid of waste in your body is essienitial and you will have a loss once you up your water and go to the bathroom. Try a little prune juice if you can stand it. As for the water I start as soon as I get up in the morning & drink all day. I drink it plain or with crystal light. Also I bought some propel water once in a 33 oz bottle, so now I use it for drinking daily. I know once I've gone through it twice I'm beyond my 64 oz! Hope this helps!

I don't think that is the problem. I have a BM at least twice a day and my weight loss is really slow. I have only lost 16 pounds at 7 weeks post-op.

Hey Anita, I don't know if the constipation is causing your wl to slow down, but I know that if I can't go #2, I eat a couple of bites of anything with sorbitol or mannitol in it and I get cleaned right out. I knew of a guy who got impacted after wls, and he said it is not fun and will never let it happen again...he drinks about 1.5 gallons a day now!!!

HI, Anita! I'll be 6 weeks on Monday (surgery Nov. 14th) and I am experiencing exactly the same thing. Lost 30 lbs. in first 2 weeks, then it began to taper a bit and then slowed to 1/2 lb. a day. For the past 3 days, I've been stalled, not gaining or losing. I have BM every few days and it hasn't seemed to have any effect at all on the scales. I have read from several posters that it is normal to hit a stall somewhere from week 3 to 9, so I think we're just right where we're supposed to be at this point. I was hoping to hit the 50 lb. mark by the end of the year, but I'm stuck at 46 lbs. off. How frustrating!!! I'm sure it'll pick back up for us both--hang in there! Blessings, Teresa

Hey Anita, I also had problems with constipaton. I tried for a week to solve it myself with more liquids, more activity and stopped pain medications. Finally I called the nurse and she said "you can take a stool softener; you don't have to put yourself through all that." I tried Ducolax (1 pill) and it helped immediately. I haven't had to take another one (it's been over a week now.) and no more potty problems. I don't have a working scale, so I don't really worry about daily weigh-ins. I did weigh myself at my mom's yesterday and (if the scales match) am down 7 pounds from last check-up 11/16, for a total of 27 in 3 1/2 weeks. Keep up the good work. Don't be a slave to your scales. As long as you are doing the right things, you WILL lose weight! Happy New Year, Tammy
