NO WEIGHT LOSS SINCE DECEMBER 1ST
Christine,
I know what you're going through. I'm almost 5 weeks out and have lost 33 lbs but it's slowing down a great deal. Our bodies are trying to adjust to the sudden changes and it seems that many people stall at this time. I'm just trying to stay off the scale and stay with my routine. Protein, water, exercise and meals that are 5 hours apart. Also, I only weigh myself once a week now...and you will see a difference that way. Trust your body to do what it's supposed to do. By the way, I also notice my loss slows down when it's time for my menstral cycle. Just something to keep in mind I hope this helps a little.

Ok Christine;
If possible, find the soundtrack to the TV show, "Kung Fu" and play it while you read this....
"Patience, grasshopper, The journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step. You know that there is no way that you will NOT lose weight if you stay with the program (lean protein, water, vitamins, exercise). You also know that there will be times when you lose pounds, times when you lose inches, times when you lose both, times when you lose neither. Wisdom comes from learning to be at peace in all of these different stages.
Have you been recording your exercise and diet on Fitday.com? Much insight is gained from the close inspection of our daily energy input and expenditure.
Remember, grasshopper, you are on the journey of a lifetime and not a diet. There is no end to your new life. Keep living life the way you know you should, and the weight will yield with time."
So Christine, I hope my little attempt to lighten the situation helped a little and didn't make it worse. I know how frustrating these plateaus are though, honest--I got stuck for a while when I was only two weeks out...It was my menstrual cycle and my body fighting a cold I think. I upped my exercise and it seemed to break the hold. I did notice that even though I wasn't losing pounds, I was still losing inches.
Best wishes. I do really recommend www.fitday.com --it's an awesome resource.
Christine - we had the same surgery date - 6 weeks ago. I am really bummed about my slow weight loss too. I have only lost 5 lbs since 11/30, only 21 since the surgery. The other 12 was during the preop liquid fast.
I am insulin-dependent. It seems when my blood sugars were wild immediately postop and while on the full liquid diet the first few weeks, I lost weight. When they started being normal consistently is when the weight loss essentially stopped.
I don't know what to do. I am doing everything by the book nutritionally. Less than 800 calories, 80-90 gm protein, 50-60 gm carbs, ~ 56 oz fluids. My NUT is happy but I'm not. Because I had polio, exercise is a challenge and my physical therapist devised a program that only focuses on upper body. Can't get too excited about that but it's more exercise than I was getting preop. I, too, feel why did I have this surgery for 1-2 lbs a week at this early stage? I know it will slow down after 6 months but after 3 weeks?

What I have found is that some of us are slow losers. I am a slow loser. Read my profile.http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/members/profile.php?N=L1120619064
I believe the rate at which you lose is hereditary. My niece also had weight loss surgery 6 months ago and her weight loss has been slow as well. While many of her peers that had surgery by the same doctor have lost 100 or more pounds, she has lost 70 pounds. I worked with a woman a couple of years ago who had the gastric bypass and it took her a year to lose 70 pounds and she lost 50 more pounds over the next near. I am okay with losing slower as long as the weight loss continues. I was afraid it would stop after 6 months but for the slow losers that I know, the weight loss continued for well over 18 months. Another observation I have made of the slow losers is that they tend to not have many food issues if you know what I mean I have felt normal from the day of my surgery. I don't I have not come across a food that I cannot tolerate. I subscribe to the yahoo group for slow losers. One slow loser that made it to goal said that she had to do very low carb in order to reach goal.
I am so glad to hear that I am not the only one that seem to be "stuck" as far as weight loss. By chance I am due to start my period anytime to. I haven't had a really rapid loss either but I have had a big inches loss. I look a lot different, especially my upper half. I look like I am being juiced from the head down. Sounds funny I know, but it's the best way to describe it. I know I am not eating enough "food food" yet as I am still relying on protein drinks for 45 of my minimum 60gms of protein per day. Could this be the problem? Anyone else still doing this? What are your diets like now?
Heather,
I'm one week behind you, post-op. I don't have a working scale and I'm glad of it. We all lose weight, just like gaining weight, differently.
I have also lost mostly in my face, shoulders, and lower arms. I cracks me up because my face looks a lot thinner, but I'm still in the same slacks (not as tight though.) It took me four tries before I could find a sweater to fit the other day because they kept sliding off my shoulders!
I can't stand the protein drinks; 2 1/2 weeks of CIB was enough for me. I eat low-fat/sugar free everything, from cottage cheese, yogurt, cheese sticks, pudding (I do add protein powder to my pudding... power pudding,) and mushy cereal with milk. I've added Profect to the days when I'm going to be under 50 g protein, but not everyday; some days I just can not eat enough. Profect has 25g protein and no sugar or calories. It's advertised here on OH, but I saw a posting that said you can buy it cheaper on UBID.com, so that's where I've been getting it.
I'm still on a soft, mushy diet. I think when I can add meat it will be easier because meat has a lot more protein per oz than all the dairy I've been eating.
Your monthly cycle will definitely have an effect on your weight loss. I had a hysterectomy 2 years ago, so that's not an issue for me, thank goodness!
Take care, good luck, and Happy New Year.
