50 + year old women poll
I posted on the main message board...but...decided to post it here too...so...here goes
As you know...the ones of us that are of a more "mature" age sometimes lose a little slower than our younger counterparts....so....I would like to ask...of you ladies that are over 50.....How much weight had you lost since surgery. Hate to exclude you younger gals....but....believe me...the 50's will be here before you can turn around...LOL LOL
Hi Paula,
I'm not quite 50 but getting close (48 1/2). Who say's we don't lose weight as fast as the younger people? My surgery was on Nov. 17th. Pre-op I managed (throught a lot of prayer and hard work) to lose 66 pounds. By my 26th day out as a post-op I had lost a little more than 30 pound's for a total of 96 pound's. Now who say's we can't lose weight as fast as the younger people? It all depends on us as individual's How much we eat, what we eat, how much protein we take in, how much we exersize, our metabolism etc. It dosen't matter if someone is a slow loser, as long as they lose Hope this help's you.
God bless,
Annette
51 and -22 pounds since 11/30 surgery. I am quite happy with that number as a 2.5 week start(!); but I do not put too much stake in it for a number of reasons:
1) yes, at least pre-op I was an EXTREMELY slow loser with 0 metabolism (despite water aerobics, stationary bike, weights, etc.) left
2) gained lots of fluid weight right before surgery when I had to stop my diuretic-type BP meds (that should be a wash, cuz I haven't started back on them)
3) I've always varied +- 2-5 pounds in a given day, so I never know
4) I do have this realistic attititude that says it will certainly slow down as time goes on, and I've heard all this stuff about it being very individual (and often coming in spurts, too) so...who knows going forward
5) so....I expect at some point I could still be fretting on the board about how SLOW it is, plateaus (which have always been my nemesis after a big weight loss, and which I know DO happen post-op too), etc....
BUT, back to the positive, I am still PSYCHED by the start - it has exceeded my expectations!
I think weight loss is a combination of body make-up and age. I definitely think the older we get the slower it is.
I am 51 years old and had my surgery on 11/4. I am down 36 lbs. to date - which I am very happy about though I do admit to envy when I hear the large weight losses that some people experience.
