November board and question
Hi all! I have been a lurker for awhile and you are all so nice here! I didn't realize that this board continued after the month of surgery and now it's really the only one I go to because we are all in the same boat and I like to see what everyone else is doing and struggling with. That being said...I hope you all don't mind if I pull up a chair and hang out with you!
I and about 10 day post op....doing rather well and don't really have many complaints. Not sure what the "officia" loss is...but I think about 22 pound since starting pre-op liquids.
I had something happen to me 2 days ago that I didn't understand. I have been struggling like all of you twith this protein and fluid thing. We were going to take the kids to go see Santa and I needed to get a snack inbefore we left. I took 20 minutes to eat a snack pack (no sugar added - 1 gm sugar) with 1/2 scoop of matrix vanilla podwer (anything to get the protein in). About 30-40 min later, I got terrible abdominal pain. It waxed and waned for 2 hours. Just about when it would get intense enough to take my breath away, there would be a gurgling and pain relief. Is this a kind of dumping? intolerance? I was so afraid that all my seams were going to bust....I can say, I told DH that all the snack packs were now for him!
Any good recipe ideas?
Thanks All!
Stephanie
Congratulations on your WLS!! What you experienced with your recent stomach pains sounds as though it had "something" to do with that snack pack, and for that reason, I wouldn't touch that snack again for awhile. It might just have been that you didn't chew the snack well enough, but still, I'd stay away from it for a few weeks. My snack of choice is string cheese, which comes in several different flavors. It is also a good source of protein (9 gr). Good luck.............

Kam....thanks for replying. Did you have RNY done? On my list of diet restrictions, she didn't add cheese until soft food diet. I have wanted to try it because of the proten. After looking at lables, I pass on so many things because the volume isn't worth the lack of protein. Obviously you haven't had any problems with it as it's your snack of choice. Maybe I'll e-mail my dietician and "get permission" *LOL*
How have you been doing since WLS? I look forward to chatting with you more in the future!
Stephanie
Hi Stephanie,
Congrats on your loss so far! I'm still tweaking this protein thing too. With me that sugar free pudding is now a no-no. Since I've become quite lactose intolerant from surgery I get ill or gurgling from it. I guess it has too much milk in it. I make anything like that from scratch ( ...well outta the box lol!) with Lactaid and it goes down fine. I've been eating cheese since day 7 or 8 just a little melted and have gradually increased it. I've also done fine with sucking on a tablespoon or 2 of peanut butter for awhile (slowly!) to get in some protein too.
Also try this, now that its cold, get some sugar free cocoa and add a little choc protein powder, you'll hardly notice it.
Hope this helps!
