Humongous Bruise??!!! (5 day Post-Lap RNY) Common? Anyone had one?

Here's the deal. Home 2 days. When I was in the hospital, one of the med. folks checking my belly mentioned a bruise that kind of raised their eyebrows. They ultimately determined it was a non-issue, probably caused by one of the shots I got. I never really looked at the part of me much below the navel at the hospital. I just looked in the mirror and found, in addition to the bruise I was looking at before, a HUGE thing (I'm going to guess at LEAST 4x6") on my lower left quadrant. Of course I found this right after doctor closing hours! There is nothing in my going home instructions about having an emergency situation for bruising, so I'm not rushing to the ER.** Anyone with bruise experience out there? Don't think I've seen much about that here. **OT, when exactly do the hormone issues kick in? I've been feeling emotionally (and physically) really pretty good - as well as can be expected - but this one freaked me out and I broke out in tears???!!! What's the deal with THAT??

I had that, too. I didn't really see the bruise until I got home because the underside of my belly has been hidden from my direct sight for many years. I'm sure mine was from the blood thinner injections they gave me in the hospital to prevent clots. It went away before the scabe on my incisions. (Just waiting for the one where the drain was to go away so I can start swimming laps again) The hormone issues kicked in about a week after my surgery when I spent a couple of days crying over anything. I still tear up pretty easily but it's getting better. The depression part is over. Didi

Thanks so much, Didi! I also reposted this on the main board, and the consensus seems to be that a lot of people have bruising from the blood thinner shots (of course, it's not like the tissues really appreciated having had all those instruments poking around in them for hours either). Incidentally, I did call the doctor's office too, but the protocol on the issue seemed to be having someone call me on it tomorrow. Hopefully, that, too, is a sign this is not an emergency situation I need to panic about. It sounds like you found yours just about the same way I found mine. I have had the same, er, obstacle to a complete view for some years. Thanks, too, for your hormone note. At five days, I guess that closely enough matches your week. I don't know why I thought it would be a few weeks before that kicked in. I'll have to look at it as a good sign - perhaps I am beginning to burn fat! I was sitting here, tears flowing down my face, laughing and telling my hubby I don't really FEEL the tears, they are just there! At some point, I may get to the real sadness/depression thing, but at least I'm primed/prepped to handle that one. Thanks again, people on this board are really so helpful!
