30 days out need advice
Hi Eveyone, I am 30 days out. Had Lap Rny. I am eating very well I think meat salad and vegies and very little at that. I drink water and suger free tea and walk alot. Still have some pain in my back and burp a lot. But the thing is I have not lost a weight in two weeks. How can this be? No one eating as little as I do should be losing somthing wrong? I lost about 19pd in the first 2 weeks but not anymore. Any ideas. Thanks Elaine
I totally know what you mean and I almost cried when I weighed myself yesterday! I was 3 weeks post op on this past Tuesday and on my 10 day post op appointment I was down 13 lbs but yesterday when I went in to weigh, I was only down 18 lbs which means I have only lost 5 lbs in the past two weeks! I wanted to scream! I don't know why this is because I a still a newbie but I would also like to know. The only thing I do know is if you are walking alot it aides in getting the gas out which is why you are burping so much.
Smiles,
Belinda
In the book Weight Loss Surgery, finding the thin person inside of you it said that it isn't uncommon to have your weight loss stop between weeks 2-5 because your body is shocked that you aren't eating enough. You can help yourself push through this by trying on clothes! Although your weight isn't going down, your size is. I found this to be extremely true! I LOVE weighing myself now (the last 2 weeks has been a pleasant surprise each day as I weighed 1 or 2 lb less each day.) It abruptly halted--and I remembered that passage from the book. I tried on a pair of pants--and I did lose inches! I just wish I had taken measurements pre-op!
Thanks to both of you for the info. I guess my body is trying to work things out. I am 53 and thought that maybe my age played a part in the weight loss. I am starting back to the gym on Monday and I think that will help. I was just puzzeled as to how one could not lose and be eatting so little. My email is [email protected] keep in touch we are close in dates. Good luck Elaine
Hello Elaine
I am also 52 and had surgery 11/7. My scales have stopped moving also. I follow the diet strictly and have begun to exercise. I hope things move along pretty soon. I also eat hardly anything except protein shakes, artificial crab and cottage cheese. I drink my water. Hopefully the numbers will go down soon.

Elaine I think we're all going through this same thing. I have been very upset that my scale has stopped at 16 lb loss. But, talking to veterans they say its normal, our body has been in shock from surgery and now eating so little but it will start again. I've been told to stay off my scale and not to get on until I see my doc at my Dec 20th checkup and use the measuring tape and record the inches. I think we'll drive ourselves crazy overanalyzing this. I actually started wondering.."will I be that 1 it doesn't work on?" I know this is what everyone has thought so its normal, I just have to be patient as we all do. Hang in there we're ALL going to make it past this!!
Hi Trina, Just saw your message and can really relate, I too had my surgery on 11/16 and went for my 2 week last Friday and could not believe my eyes. Only 14 pound since the surgery. My husband had the surgery on 10/18/05 and has already lost 60 pounds. So, I think I'll be the only one that the surgery won't work on. But we well stick this out and be winners in the end. Keep up the good work, I know you are trying so hard and you will be proud.
Elaine, does that tea have caffine in it? Caffiene is a definite Are you getting in your 60 grams of protein? Your body needs to feed itself off of that 60 grams of protein otherwise it will think you are in a famine and it will be trying hard to conserve its resources. Drink those protein shakes and things should began to change.
Meat, salad and veggies? Wow, my nutritionist nearly took my head off over half a banana and a bite of steak. I am not supposed to be eating raw veggies or fruit and most definitely not supposed to eat red meat. Well not until after my six weeks check up.
I hate tuna but I find that sardines in soybean oil taste very good. Also things like blackeyed peas, butter bean, red bean, kidney beans and pinto beans are satisfying and provide plenty of fiber. I jazz them up with onion powder and garlic powder while they are cooking. These of course are the dried variety. White beans are gas machines and green peas are little more than pure sugar. I haven't had a bad blood sugar since I have been home these 19 days and I have taken no diabetes meds.
I make my protein shakes with 4 oz fat-free, lactose free milk and 4 oz of light yogurt with fiber and a packet of Splenda. I add some crushed ice before mixing it up. I was spending extra money on Lactaid Mil****il I started shopping at Albertsons and found their store brand, which is very good and cheaper.
Before my surgery I loved grits and eggs, now they tend to give me heartburn. Experiment with your taste buds. This is an adventure you know.
