Any Lap Banders out there that can help?

I am scheduled for the 30th of nov and have thoughts that maybe i should have elected the RNY...maybe I do not have the incentive for the lap band.........was told to have liquid diet two weeks before procedure and that was impossible......I was starving all the time.......best I could do was one or two small soft meals with the liquids.......does that mean I wont be a good lap bander?.............any suggestions would be appreciated........Mary

I was just banded on Nov 21...am 1 week post-op. I wouldn't say you've made the wrong choice, but only you can know which surgery is right for you. I was not required to do a liquid diet, or any kind of diet for that matter, pre-op. The reason some doctors require it is they believe that the liver shrinks somewhat, making the surgery easier. However, there is no solid proof that a liquid diet beforehand is beneficial. Now, don't get me wrong, you should try your hardest to follow all instructions your doc gives you. But don't beat yourself up over it if you don't follow it to a T. We all slip up...and there are few of us who could manage to do a liquid diet for 2 weeks pre-op. After all, if we had that much will power, we wouldn't need WLS in the first place! I am one week post-op and am supposed to be on full liquids...but I too have been cheating a little. Again...I"M NOT telling you it's okay to cheat. However, we are human. One final point...you have to give yourself credit where credit is deserved. The mere fact that you are only eating one or two small soft meals is a triumph in and of itself. And you're not even banded yet! It's a heck of a lot better than eating the Whopper, fries, and large soda that I'm sure you were used to eating. This is what I keep telling myself. Sorry about being so wordy.
