Im home too! They let me go home a day early!
Hey everyone. After freaking out and crying my eyes out in the pre op holding. and waking up crying I realized that alot of it was just my own fears. The Drs were awsome and made me feel as comfortable as possible. Usually we stay in the hospital for 4 day( I would be released today) but they let me go last night. Yea!!! It was hard however to get comfortable inthe bed. I thought I would sleep more at home but Nope I didnt. I was bored at the hospital and having high caliber surgeon care did not translate into high nurse care. My first nurses were great made sure I was comfortable then the day nurse forgot alot about me. I think she is really over worked or just not very orginized. Im not kidding when I say it took 4 hrs to get a bandage for my drain or other incredible amts of time to help me get things done. THen the night nurse (diffrent then first) had me freaked out cuz I wasnt peeing. was talking over and over about kidney failure etc. The next day my dr says not to worry Its normal for Bari patients to not pee for a while. Someone should have told the nurse that. Then yesterday again it took allday to get things if they ever did come. I asked for nose saline spray 3 times and she never brought it. These are just a few of the things. But Other than forgeting about me she helped me get out early. Guess cuz I was walking so much out of boredom!. Glad to be home. I seem to be cold alot but Im taking a space heater to every room i go into! Oh yea Isopure and SF Jello rock!!! Hope everyone is feeling good soon! Time for a little pain med and a nap! Leann
Good luck to you during this recovery period, Leann!! Luckily for me, I had a wonderful experience in the hospital, with both the doctors and the nurses. It is now that I am home (came home on Tues.) that I am actually missing that great hospital bed and great care!! But, my hubby is "trying" to be a great nurse, and one of these nights I hope to find a comfortable way to actually get some sleep!! I guess we all need to just take it one day at a time.....even though for some reason, the "bad" days seem to last longer than the "good" ones!! Hmmmm, wonder why that is??? Anyway, tomorrow I see my doctor, and he will remove my drain tube, so maybe that will be my "turn around day". I hope. Keep up the good work at home, and I wish you the best in your recovery!! And, yum, yum, SF Jello!!

Very glad to hear you got to go home early--they must feel you're out of danger. My worst day was the next day at the hotel. I had a lot of pain that day and was afraid to take the medicine--so afraid of nausea. But finally I took it and was so much happier. The 2nd morning, I woke up pain free. My tummy made a cute little kitty sound and I got up and started walking. Little did I know that my stomach would make that sound constantly the rest of the week. Not so cute now. Lots of gas. I love Isopure mixed with sugar free Crystal lite (equal parts). I also tried the Z-pro chocolate whey powder and it's so yummmmmmmy! I could freakin' live on this stuff! I finished a two oz. serving over a couple of days--25 grams protein. Going to try a s.free popsicle later. The cold stuff seems to hurt the most though.
Hope you get the pain under control soon--it really does get better fast after that!
