I am two weeks out, feeling great, and back at work!
I am really sick of carnation instant breakfast, but cream soups are good.
I don't know if my experience is not typical, but it helped that my wife had the procedure in May of 2004, so I already knew about support options then. I had attended many support group and educational functions during her ordeal, and was very well prepared both physically and mentally.
My wife had her procedure using an open incision (big scar), but mine was laproscopic (5 little scars). She is frustrated as my scars after two weeks look better than hers after a year and a half. What progress they have made.
Insurance approval slid right through. I started the process in June of 05 and had the surgery on November 8th, and had approval by July. My psych and other evals were completed in July with approval, and my surgery was scheduled in September. I do not believe that the process could not have been smoother, except for the delay in getting a surgery date because they are so busy.
I was home in two days, back to work part time in 6 days (computer geek, desk job), and full-time in 13 days. All aspects of my medical care were great.
I've had very little pain, and did not take any medication home, and have only used Tylenol. I've eliminated one high blood pressure medication already and cut another in half and my numbers are good.
I posted this to be sure that positive experiences are posted as well. Hopefully, things will continue to go well for me.

Hey Bob, great to hear that you are doing so well!!! Thanks for posting your positive experience.
I'm a week ahead of you, but I too had a great experience. I had surgery on Wednesday, home on Thursday, back to work part time on Monday. Then the next Monday, working full days again.
Only problems I have now are what I call air bubbles that cause a lot of pain and of course I can't make myself burp without feeling like everything will come up. I'm still not sure if its from eating too fast or something else, but I take it easy and it eventually corrects itself.
I've lost 23lb in 3 weeks, seems like it should be faster, but then I think that its ONLY been 3 weeks and I'm happy with my results. I'm still in the same clothes, although they are getting baggy, but can't wait to start buying smaller sizes! It's going to be so exciting!
They had me on liquid diet for two weeks prior to the procedure; something about shrinking my liver. I lost 28 lbs between then and my surgery date, and have since lost another 17lbs for a total of 45lbs. I now need new clothes.
I burp normally without any sensation of throwing up. They gave me a prescription for the little purple pill that seems to help with my generally light upset stomach feeling.
On Friday they told me I can eat solid food that mushes, that are high in protein. We went out to dinner that night and I ate 1/4 of a side of black beans, and most of a cup of spicy chicken tortilla soup It was wonderful. I've discovered that my former taste for spicy food does not appear to be a problem.
