My Dr. only requires liquids 3 days before surgery I'm counting my blessings on that one!!! Good luck - to get your protein in you might try either some of the protein drinks advertised here or the New Slim Fast ones that have higher protein and low carbs. Having been on a liquid protein diet before, I can tell you I was amazed at how much that infusion of protein can help. The first few days will be the hardest - hang in there!!

Hi Stephanie, I have to do the liquid diet for a week before surgery. I have been drinking 1 protein shake, and 2 meals a day, for about a month now per my surgeon. Yesterday I started doing 2 protein drink's a day and 1 meal. I'm hoping to work my way down to just the liquid's. It is always best to do exactly what your DR. tell's you to do. There is a reason behind the insanity. Best wishes during your liquid phase. YOU CAN DO THIS GIRL! God bless you, Annette

Hey Stephanie I am not required to a diet.... of any kind. However, as of today I am doing full liquids and 1 child size meal. Then starting next Wednesday I am going to try the full liquids until surgery. I know you may say why am I doing this to myself. Well, for the mental side of it. I know I can eat all I want and still have surgery. But then I'm going to come home Friday after surgery to nothing but liquids. I am going to work my way up to surgery. I am telling you all this to say you can do it. Your surgery is your tool, your strength come from within. Everytime you want to give up....Think about how you will be in those size 10 Jeans with your flat tummy That's what works for me...... Have a fast recovery surgery

GETS YOU MENTALLY READY FOR IT, AND THATS REALLY GOOD BECAUSE I'M ASSUMING THAT YOU WONT EVEN WANT TO BE EATING ANYTHING ANYWAYS...... BUT CONGRATS AND GOOD LUCK WE HAVE A DATE ON THE SAME DAY YOO HOOOOO YEAH ONLY ELEVEN DAYS AND WE WAKE UP TO NEW LIVES ........ THANKS FOR THE RESPONSE..........

I am gonna have to do the liquid diet for 2 weeks before my Nov. 22 surgery. I am also nervous about it. It sounds easy but I will still have to feed my family and watch my coworkers eat their lunch... Just a little pitty party for me I guess. I just keep telling myself that I can be strong. Two weeks is not that long. I have been doing 2 slim fast, 2 small snacks, and one meal a day for a week now. Trying to get myself ready. I just tell myself I need to do what the doctor says. I don't want to go through all of this just to not do what the doc orders. Thank God for this web site

I am only required to do the liquid diet the day before surgery with the pre-op prep. I will probably eat light the day before that as well, just to make sure that my body is ready.. my head sure is..LOL.. Two weeks from Thursday is my date. Take care, Jacki K from PA

I did a liquid diet and lost almost 20 pounds in 2 weeks. The key was to drink a protein shake every 2 hours. The hardest day was the 2nd day and I went to bed early to avoid thinking about it. The 3rd day was easier. The 4th day was a piece of cake. Your appetite goes away. I drank about 9 shakes the 2nd day to avoid eating. By the 4th day I had to force myself to get in the minimum of 6 shakes.

You are correct Divine Lady, it does go away. I have to do a 2 week and while you miss the chewing.... I can live with that. Think about this Stephanie and Diane - it's not forever. It's a temporary situation and in turn you do several things. 1. You get ready for your new life. 2. You help shrink your liver so that your surgeon has a better visual field. 3. You get your intestines/bowel track cleared out so that IF there is a tear, you won't be built up with feces (sorry) matter in your insides which would increas your chance of infection. 4. (My own opinion here).... liquids will help shirk your stomach, thus, less "organ" to work on and again - better visual. FWIW - I have 8 protein drinks to get in a day and I can't. The best I've done is 6. Yesterday I could only do 3. Sheryl In the Zoo
