The things nobody wants to talk about...

Ok...I'm putting myself "out there" once again. In part this helps me and I'm sure it helps others. Past one year out and there seem to be a lot of things that nobody wants to talk about... 1) I didn't get to goal 2) I've gained weight back (this includes those 5 pounds that seem to go up and down) 3) I'm starting to find out that I can eat things that I would NEVER have tried a few months ago...and I eat them. 4) Sometimes I don't exercise as much as I should. Hmm... that's just a few to start us off. Please fell free to join in. I'm not complaining or whining, just expressing MY thoughts and feelings. Don't get it twisted...I love my new body and value the happiness and health that came with it. I still work hard at eating right and exercising BUT it sure is getting harder....as I was told it would. As always, I just want people to know that they're not alone. I'm sure there are other people who could add to my "list" above. Come on folks...let's bring this board back to life. You can make it something serious or funny. Tanya

I'm with you on the exercise thing right now. I was traveling so much and with the holidays, I gave myself permission to take December off and now that it's January, there's so many damn New Year's Resolution folks at my gym, I couldn't get a treadmill on Monday night !! So, I've been to the gym twice since 12/3. Twice! I was going 5x/wee****il I went to London the day after Thanksgiving. So, how can we motivate each other to at least take that step?

Hi Tanya, I'm with you an ALL your points! (although I've not really gained weight back, other than 2 pounds I picked up and held onto the last part of December, but I kicked those babies last week!) My hubby and I joined a new gym in December. I think he's been twice! I have gone all of 10 times. I want to go more often, but I have a hard time making myself plan the time, get ready, and then out the door. Once I'm in the car, I'm golden. Another item to the list for things nobody talks about: 5) Loose skin gets in the way... with clothes, weight machines, sex... sheesh! Great to see you again... and I've got to get a new photo posted (the one you see is from May 2006!) Hugs, Tammy

OMG Tammy Are you coming to Richmond??? We're going to have soooo much FUN!!! Your #5 How could I forget the loose skin. You know I was running down the steps last night and my daughter was UPSTAIRS in her room and she said "what was that noise" I had to tell her it was by belly slapping up and down OMG...she was cracking up She said "Mom...you really need to get your arms and your tummy done" YA THINK I'm now the master of disguise...I know how to hide my skin issues pretty well Tanya

Tanya, I'm so sad to say I'm not going to make it to the Richmond event this time. My dad has been very ill and I have to be with him that weekend. Have fun and I'm looking forward to the pictures!! Tammy

Tammy I'm sorry to hear your dad has been ill. Family first....always the best rule. I will miss you BUT I will be sure to take lots of pictures How is hubby adjusting to the new you? I've been talking to several people who are going through relationship changes as a result of their weight loss. Being single rocks right now..but I also envy people who have someone by their side. I'm having a difficult time with men who wouldn't gve me the time od day before and now their all in my face Tanya

Honestly, my hubby has taken this all in stride. However, right about my 5 month anniversary, he had a serious accident and a much more major life change (temporarily anyway) when his lower left leg was crushed, rebuilt and he's had to learn to walk on it again. I know what you are saying about men who wouldn't give you the time of day before. We've talked about that in our support group! My thing is people I do business with that didn't give me full respect before losing 132 pounds, even though my position and responsibilites warrented it, but now they say I'VE changed (and I mean in the context of my job, not looks)!! No... I only look different to THEM, I'm still the same, confident, intelligent person. In some ways it has really been a revelation to me about how other people viewed me as an obese person in the workplace! Thinking about it, I'm a little suprised I haven't been "hit on" by more men, but it may be that I don't give off that "available" vibe. Women friends and family have actually commented more on how SEXY I look than men... hmmm... maybe the men are scared? Tammy

The gym is a nightmare because of those New Years Resolutions that people make and then can't stick with it. There have beens times I have walked into the gym and then left because i couldn't get on a bike, treadmill or any of the weight machines I usually use. I still make it about twice a week and I used to go four times a week. I did surpass my goal which I am very happy about but have noticed a 3 pound weight gain. I know it is not a lot but I get very nervous seeing the scale go up instead of staying steady or going down. I find I can eat more even though it is healthy food. I do eat carbs that I am trying to cut down on. I also was not ready for all the loose skin. I wasn't heavy all my life so I asumed my skin would not be bad but I have a lot of loose skin on my face and neck that bothers me alot. I also have a large ring that goes all the way around so my clothes don't fit properly. Overall I am happy with how things turned out and then somethings I am disappointed with. But I can deal with those disappointed issues. WLS has been one rollercoaster ride over the past 13 months.

Janet I'm with you on the carbs. I eat a LOT of fruit and veggies....sounds healthy but I get in too many carbs. As far as the cloths size...I completely understand. I can wear anything from a 14, 16, or 18 depending on how it fits. If it's stretch jeans...a 14. If they don't stretch..a 16 or 18. My waist is a great deal smaller than my hips and butt. So I usually have to get a larger size to accommodate them As far as my top...well I have skin from my arms so I have to buy tops to hide that. Still all in all...I can say I'm really happy and healthy...and that was my GOAL. Stay with your program and stay positive...and congrats your your success Tanya
