Questions about Dumping

Ok, so I was talking to a girl at work the other day and she was telling me that when you're about a year out you're not as sensitive to sugar or grease as you were in the beginning. Is this true? I know that from person to person results are different and something that will make one dump won't make another dump. But in general, is it possible that you're not as sensitive to things as you once were?

I have heard the same thing as you. My friend had her surgery 3 or 4 years ago and she can now eat anything but Coke still makes her feel sick sometimes. She can drink Pepsi or Spike or anything else except for Coca Cola. I don't know why but that's how it is with her. So i guess yes it all depend on who it is. Hopes this helps a little. Good Luck. I have heard the same thing that is why this is just a tool to help. We need to better our diet and eat the right things now. I have not tried any surgar or pop and I don't even want to go there. Betty

I've never even dumped yet (and not complaining, either!) Oddly, my tummy is pretty sensitive. I still throw up regularly, and many things make me feel icky.

I am not even 10 months out and I am less sensitive to fried and sugary foods. I love french fries so occasionally I will have a few without a problem. If I eat to many then I don't feel well. I have the same reaction to sugary food. i do not have the desire to eat these foods. I am afraid of falling into old bad habits. We need to remind ourselvs we have a tool to work with.

I just want to clarify that I didn't want to know because I wanted to eat things that would take me further from where I want to be, I was curious if she was right. I stay away from the things that got me fat in the first place. To be honest, it kind of scares me to think that I won't dump if I eat surgary or fried foods. I liked having the knowledge that if I ate it I would be sorry. I guess the best answer on this is to not test it at all! Keep staying away from those kinds of things and I won't need to have the answer, right?

Christina; Usually the reason people are less sensitive to sugary and fatty foods the further post-op they get is they've let them back in their diet to a point that their pouch gets used to them. If you stay away from sugar and fats, your dumping will still work. My husband is non-op, but he's gotten away from processed sugars since I had my surgery and he has dumped on the one occassion he had sugar. Blessings, Jennifer

I worked with a guy who was 3 years post-op. he LIVED on moutain dew and corn chips, and he talked about being able to eat 1/2 lb of candy. I don't ever want to get to the point where I can live like that again.
