Discouraged.....

Hi Friends, Well, I'm almost 10 months out and totally discouraged about whether I will lose any more weight. Pre-surgery, I was 282, Day of surgery 268, now 278. Yes, I am thrilled that I've lost 104 lbs since May of 2005, but I've been at a plateau now for 8 weeks. I am on day 4 of the plateau buster diet. I am drinking water (floating away). I am eating protein first (min 60 gms/day). I am not eating complex carbs (fruit only) and I am exercising at least 1 hour at a time, 4 times a week. What am I doing wrong? Am I stuck at this weight? I want to lose at least 29 more lbs to get to my goal. Any suggestions?? DianeC.

Diane; I'm experiencing the same thing. My surgeon's protein guideline is 70g/day, so you might be a little low on the protein. Are the fruits you're eating low glycemic index? There's a woman on the light-weights board that swears by only LGI carbs. What type of exercise are you doing? Have you tried changing your exercise routine up? Your body may just be in a rut. Also, are you using a heart rate monitor? It could be you're exercising at either too high or two low of a heart rate to burn fat. And, the question we all hate: have you checked your inches? I've been losing 1 lb. a week, but I was losing more than that before I more than doubled my exercise program, so I'm pretty stressed and disappointed about the situation. I went back to using fitday.com today to see if I've let some foods/calories creep back in that I'm not realizing. Even though I haven't been using it consistently lately, I ran a weight report and was pleased to see that my average weekly weight loss is still 2.26 lbs./week. Let me know how plateau buster works for you. I've not tried it to date, but am considering it if things don't start moving. Blessings, Jennifer

Hi Jennifer, Thanks for your reply. I haven't measured in a while. I'll have to do that this week. I will also check into fitday again. I appreciate the encouragement. Diane

Thanks Carla, Congrats on your loss. This plateau is the worst one yet, I've had a couple of three week plateaus before, and kept trudging alone. This one is frustrating, but I keep exercising and following the rules. Hopefully, it will break soon. Will keep you posted on plateau buster diet. Thanks for your encouragement. Diane

I'm right there with you on the plateau. I have been waivering up and down within 4 lbs and I need to get things moving again. I am starting the plateau buster tomorrow (just printed it out) and I'm hoping it helps. I also am changing up my exercise...make sure you check your heart rate to see if you are working hard enough. It is so frustrating to hear people tell me I am melting away (gosh that sounds really ungrateful) but I know I'm not...I'm stuck as stuck can be. Good luck! Christine

Hi Christine, Thanks for your reply. I hear the same thing about melting away, but to see the scale stay the same, it's discouraging. My heart rate has been good with exercise, I'm actually mixing up the exercise a little this week at the gym and have started fitday.com again (Thanks Jennifer). I went shopping tonight because we've gotten a cold, rainy spell back east. I had to buy some dress pants for work, and I am totally amazed that I can fit into a 14W or 16 Misses. I guess the inches are going down, I'll have to stop in at Curves and weigh and measure this week. (that's where I weighed and measured to begin with!). Good luck on your plateau. This plateau buster's diet is not too bad, very high protein and lots of water, which is what I've been doing anyway, it's nice to see it in black and white though. Diane

Hi Guys, I wanted to join in on the not moving scale. about 3-4 wks ago I was so excited that I lost like 3 lbs in a week! Well......I found them in Atlanta when we were visiting! I dont know how, I thought I was doing decent on my eating and I exercised 4 out of 10 days. Actually didnt think I was eating as much as normally. So here we are almost 2.5 wks later and they 3 lbs still wont leave me alone!!!! For the whole month I only lost 3 lbs and have normally been about 5-7 lbs avg. the past few month. I think I will be joining you on the plateau buster diet. Mostly because my addiction for carbs is getting out of control! I told myself that when we got back home that I would not eat carbs anymore just get back to basics. Its hard. I know the best thing to do would be throw out all the carbs in the house again. But how fair is that to my 4 yr old and is that just my excuse? Sooo on the positive note This week I pushed my self even harder and I ran 4 miles on mon and Wed.(this morn). Its an awsome feeling. I am amazed that my body can go that far and not just fall out on the floor! Not really complaining just wanted to let you all know that you are not alone! Leann 235/139.5-142/125 goal

Hi All, Well, after a couple of days on plateau buster (I won't get on the scale until next Monday) and fitday.com, I can actually see a difference. I feel different. I thought I was eating well, proteins first, then veggies. What a surprise I got after a couple of days when fitday showed that my fat intake was 55% of my daily total!! (I ate salad dressing, and I didn't realize how much cheese I eat... it's protein - right?? ) I am still exercising for about an hour every other day. I'm sorry that others are experiencing this frustration, but glad I am not alone. It's so good to be able to come here and have others offer suggestions and know they work. Diane

O.k. I guess we're all going through the same things. I am very fustrated. I am down about 103 pounds. I went on vacation and started eating but in Cuba you really have to walk alot. So when i got back i got scared that I have gained like 10 pounds. When I weighed myself I couldn't believe that i have lost 7 pounds in a week. That motivated me to start walking here. I really haven't worked out at all since my surgery. But now i go up 3 to 3 pounds then i freak stop eating and go back down. I don't know what's happening. I am happy, I went from a size 22 to a size 8 that i am now. But I still want to loose another 20 pounds. I want to know if it's possible. What is all this your all talking about the Plateau Buster. How can I find out about it. Please help me. i am starting to freak out also. I would love any help you all can give me. My email is [email protected] Please help. Thanks and congrats to all of you on your surgery and results... Carol
