Surely I'm not the only one
Hi Janet - Don't beat yourself up - I'm a slow loser, too, and it's been discouraging to see all these people who have lost 130 pounds in the time that I've lost only 80. But then I think, "Hey, I've lost 80 pounds in 8 months!" That's pretty darn good for someone who hadn't lost weight in about 20 years. So we need to stay strong and keep on doing what we're supposed to do and we'll get to our goals. And some good news - we slower losers aren't dealing with gall bladder issues and our skin is having time to shrink back better than the faster losers. So maybe I'll just shut up and do some crunches! Keep up the good work.
Hi there!
I started out at 240 in Nov. so through my journey I would get bummed because I always "ran" into post that said I've lostt 100lbs or 90lbs......and I've lost 84lb since then. But it's because they started at a higher weight than me. So I know they are out there! Don't be discouraged, you're doing great!
Hi LC, I was in the upper 200's myself, but wanted to chime in on a few family/friends that had surgery. My aunt was well over 350+.. she won't tell anyone what her actual start weight was, nor does she give a current weight. I'd say she's in the 220's. She is 6 ft tall and looks great. She is 2 1/2 years post-op.
My best friend was 345.. she lost 135, then gained about 20 pounds back. She is 5'3". She is stable now and thankful for the loss she has had, 19 months post-op.
My mother-in-law also started mid 300's... she is now at 199 and is about 5'7". She goes months without any loss, then a few pounds.. then months again. She is also 20 months post-op.
I think that how you look and feel is the most important factors in WLS success long term. Also, sizes vary greatly when weight doesn't.. and your height and body build play a big roll in how you look. Some peole are quite satisfied at 200, others want 130.... I am a big boned girl and 5'9". I am at 184 and would like to lose a little more, but am very happy with what I have already lost.. size 22-24 bottoms and 2X tops to 12-14 bottoms and XL tops.... (just can't see myself in a Large.. too tight in my mind...) I can't imagine me at 160.. where the charts recommend I go.. I'd look horrid!! For me, losing that muchmore would make me look haggard and older than my 41... and Lord knows I don't need THAT!!!! lol. Hope this helps you.
