Height and goal weight?
My surgeon did not give me a goal weight. I am 5'8" and was 263 day of surgery. 270 at my highest weight. I was wondering if anyone else fits this profile and what their goal is. I am currently 172.8 so I am pretty happy with it. I even say if I don't loose another pound I would be ok with that, but I am still wondering what is a good goal. Thanks, Ellen
Hi Ellen, I am in a similar situation. I am 5'9" and started at 283 prior to surgery. I am now hanging around 184-187 pounds.. just shy of 100 loss. My surgeon didn't give me a goal weight, just said that losing 60%-80% of the excess is considered a successful ooutcome. Since I had about 100-120 to lose (my goal) I guess that makes me successful.
BUT I still want to lose down to about 165-170. That way if I have some rebound weight gain.. and I am told that up to 20 pounds is the average for those who do rebound.. I am still in the 175-180 pound range. If you decide to have plastic surgery to remove any excess, that will lower your weight again by removing the flab.
I'd love to be where you are. I am stuck.. up and down over the same 3-4 pounds for the past month. Makes me crazy..lol. Hope this helps you!

Hi Ellen,
At 5' 8" your B.M.I. is 26.1 which means you are moderately overweight. To be at a "normal" weight your B.M.I. should be between 18.5 and 24.9. To get to a B.M.I. of 24.9 you would need to weigh 164 pounds.
I on the other hand am 5' 3" (I grew an inch since surgery) For me to be considered "normal" I should weigh between 113 and 126 pounds. I started at 378 pounds. I don't think I will ever see 126 pounds. I set my own goal at 148 pounds. I will still be considered over weight but after being 378#'s, 148 sounds pretty good and quite reasonable to me. I hope this helps you out.
God bless you,
Annette
Hi,
I am 5'3 and I weigh 143 down from 228 in November 2005. To be a normal BMI I only have 2 more pounds to lose which will make me at 141. My goal weight is 125 and I only have 18 more to go. Just wanted to let you know that if you are the same height as me and you get down to 141, you will have a normal BMI. Maybe something to consider. Just thought I would share this information with you, by the way you have done wonderful, keep up the good work.\

Hi Stephanie,
Thank you for the reply. I was wondering where you got this info from, I would like to go there and have a look. I got mine from 2 different sites Obesity Help and Fitday. They both said at 148 I would still be overweight. I like your calculations much better lol. Thank you for sharing this with me.
God bless you,
Annette
I am also 5'8". The BMI table says "normal" weight for this height is 150-160 lb. I am shooting for the 150 mark, but this is not a steadfast goal as I may look too thin or not thin enough at this weight. I am 189 now and wearing a size 12-14. People are starting to tell me I do not need to lose more weight, but I know from how my clothes are fitting that that is not yet true. For me, my goal is to look good in the type of clothes I have always wanted to wear (ie: sleeveless shirts, shorter skirts, 2 peice bathing suit, etc). Better to focus less on a specific weight than on a fittness target or goal to help you decide when enough is enough.
